Winter Wineland (Sonoma County)

Hi everyone,

I am going to Winter Wineland and most of the wineries on the list aren’t familiar to me. I am only doing 1 out of 2 days so must stay focused. Interested in Cabs / Bdx / similar blends and whites off the beaten path (Gewurtz, Riesling, Viognier, etc). I know Sonoma wineries don’t do much in that 2nd category but I thought y’all might be able to point out a few gems [cheers.gif] Not interested in Zins, mildly interested in Pinot and Chard.

List of participating wineries: WINTER WINELAND - Wine Road

On my list so far: Siduri (PN but…), Silver Oak, Medlock Ames.

Lancaster Estate for Cab/Blends
Kokomo is very good as well.

If you are on the Healdsburg Plaza Square, we will be pouring Pinot.

I second Kokomo. Plus that location also has Papapietro (pinots - excellent), Peterson, Amphora & several others all right next to each other. That matters in these events (esp with only one day) since a lot of these wineries are miles and miles away from each other.

Ferrai Carano is worth a visit for the Gardens. On occasion they have some nice Cab based wine in the reserve room

You already have Siduri. I’ve enjoyed a lot of their pinot.

Zicichi makes a nice Petite Sirah but it needs cellar time to be very good

If you are near Santa Rosa i would recommend setting up an appointment to taste at Walter Hansel even though it is not on the list. Delicious Pinot and Chardonnay and fair prices.

Medlock Ames does Cabs and is on the list.
Holdredge does a Late Harvest Gewruz. Maybe you can talk John into popping one. Soda Rock has a Gewurz also.

Not a lot of Gewurz or Viognier in that mix.

Interested in Cabs, not interested in Zin and only mildly interested in Pinot and Chard. No offense, but why are you attending this event? The area is known for things that don’t interest you.

Selby might be pouring some things that you might like. They make a Gewurz and Cab.

Attending as more of a social activity…but I still need something to drink champagne.gif

Thank you everyone for recommendations!

There will be a very, very wide range of wines, and wineries, so you are bound to find things that you like…

We’ll also be there with Lauren’s parents for their 40th wedding anniversary. Lauren and I love Pinot but are Zin skeptics and her parents are the opposite, so we’ll see how that goes! I think we hope to talk them into liking Pinot and I’m open to changing my mind about Zinfandel, but I don’t hold out much hope on either front. I really enjoy their company so whatever we’re drinking is pretty much just a bonus. As we’re mostly along for the ride we’re doing a day in Sebastopol/Graton beforehand to kind of get our geekdom out of the way. We’ll be wearing our Berserkers buttons so if anyone sees us come over and say hi!
