Wines at dinner at Chez Bruce in London last night

I wanted to go to the Ledbury but they had the place booked for a party so we went to Chez Bruce. While a bit out of the way I would highly recommend it. Great food at reasonable prices - three courses for 40 pounds or four for 50.

Dinner was with Neal Martin, David Wainwright, Frank Baldi, Jeff Warren and Angus Duncan. No formal notes as I’m sure Neal will post on the other board at some point but highlights for me were '90 Chave Blanc which had a touch of oxidation but still a remarkable wine. '94 Rayas CdP was just singing! CdP does not get any better than this. '95 Chave Rouge was very good although next to the Rayas it suffered a bit. '94 Jadot Musigny was exquisite and a treat to try. '89 Angelus was great as always and still years away from being mature. Tricked all with a blind '95 Chateau Musar which also showed well as long as you can tolerate a bit of VA. There were a couple others but these were the ones that I am still thinking about this morning.

Paul - it was a good evening and nice to meet you. For me the Rayas showed very well. There was also a Veuve Rose 85 which was excellent and a Diamond Creek 85 (I think Gravelly Meadow). Food was great but I was very full. The other 95 was from Chave not Charvin.

Of course. edited the post. what happens when you type fast.

Thanks for the notes Paul. I still have a few bottles of 94 Rayas in my cellar. Will open one soon…

Chez Bruce and of course the Square are great…but the Ledbury is tops on my list of the three…sorry you missed it… hittin’ St. John?

Not this time Scott but I just couldn’t fit it in. It’s a shame.

Paul,

Sorry I couldn’t join you on this trip. Glad my old 90 chave blancs are still giving someone some pleasure!
