Winery visits in Barolo, possibly Barbaresco

Concur–this is a fun market and you can do very well putting together a picnic lunch here. You may be too late for the Palio but perhaps you will be able to attend the Festival delle Sagre?

Ditto this. The temple to Barbaresco. :wine_glass:

I have been to the Produttori tasting room once and had a really interesting and pleasant visit. On another occasion they were not even open, though they were quite polite when I inquired and said apologetically that they were just too busy (or perhaps short staffed) that day to host visitors. I have also had an underwhelming experience at Gaja, where the individuals we interacted with were borderline rude. That’s always left a bad impression with me. YMMV.

I would not assume that the Italians aren’t looking for DUI offenders in a wine-producing area. My feeling is that they take it pretty seriously these days. I know a US wine importer who lost his license that way a few years ago, had to have one of his reps fly out to drive him around…

I am sure it happens, but I was assuming they would have traps set up, and there was nothing like that. My sense of it, is that you have to go out of your way to attract their attention. They do not seem to be on the hunt for you, is what I am trying to say.
