Wineries to visit near Capri / Amalfi Coast?

I haven’t been there before, but a good friend is going to vacation in Capri near the end of this month. Are there any interesting wineries to visit near there, or other places of particular interest to a wine lover (regional enoteca, noteworthy wine bar, etc.) in that area?

Thanks so much for any thoughts.

Margherita pizza in Naples for sure and this place http://www.montevetrano.it/ in Salerno, just inland from Amalfi. They actually have an agriturisimo on site and it is great. We stayed there last year and didnt want to leave and that was after spending the weekend in Positano, the most romantic place I have ever been.
Also dont miss the fresh bufalo di mozzerella nearby, worth the trip all by itself.

+1 pizza

+100 renting a car and driving the amalfi coast if you are a thrill seeker.

Capri is VERY tiny so best to rent a scooter one afternoon and tool around. we literally walked the trail 1/2 way around the island one day on the side that doesn’t permit traffic.

check this out.

Tom, you are spot on - what an incredible place!!! Still have wonderful memories of the view from our room across a cove of water and cliffs to Positano… flirtysmile

Cannot say that I did anything remotely related to wine (other than drinking some)…didn’t even think about it.

I couldn’t imagine going to the Amalfi Coast without spending at least a day driving up and down the coast and walking the towns!!!

+1 on this.

Dude, so jealous! My wife and I went to Capri and Positano as part of our honeymoon. So freakin’ gorgeous. I can’t wait to go back. If your friend is down for some partying/after hours then Music on the Rocks is a kick ass place to go.

As far as wineries…didn’t get any farther than drinking some!!

We were in Posiatano last summer and had a blast. Went up and down the Amalfi coast by ferry. The entire coast is lemon orchards, olive trees and vineyareds depending on the elevation. There are many wineries, the best I think is Marisa Cuomo. I’m not sure if they take visitors, but the Fiore D’uva (sp?) is great.

I would recommend spending a few hours in Pompeii or Herculnium if you haven’t previously. My wife and I also renetd a small boat with a guide and went around Capri which was well worth it. Have fun!

Agree with everyone above. Didn’t do any wineries, I’m not even sure if there are any to visit in the area. But, Positano was my wife’s favorite of all the Italian cities we visited. Picturesque doesn’t begin to describe the Amalfi Coast. I didn’t really even order many expensive bottles, house carafe was enough for me with the views… and some lemoncello of course, but damn that lemoncello can be strong. I say, just enjoy the Amalfi Coast and save the wineries for when you visit Tuscany or Piedmont if it’s on your schedule.

Just got back from there last night. We happened upon Feudi San Gregorio on Sunday and they graciously let us in in spite of the fact that they were having a private event in their dining room. Very nice Fiano Di Avellino and Greco Di Tufo. Mastroberadino is,I believe, the largest and best known winery in the area and produces very good wines and are said to be responsible for resurrecting commercial production of the above grapes and others that were almost lost to sheep syndrome. Mastroberadino also has vineyards planted within the ruins of Pompeii which was an incredible revelation and should not be missed. The drive along the Amalfi coast was incredible, just be careful of the busses and don’t play chicken because the locals are nuts! People say that they are afaid of the drive along the Sonoma coast but CA Hwy 1 is like an interstate compared to Amalfi. Best, Bob

I’m sure they will go there since it’s a small island, but have them bring a picnic lunch up to Anacapri. Breathtaking views.

Capri is a very different place once the tourists leave for the day.

There are a couple of wineries on Ischia (the island to the north of Capri). Nothing earth moving, but I think there are 3 D.O.C.'s on the island
