If you have time and transport, suggest Hacienda el Ternero, about 65km west of Logrono (Miranda del Ebro). Excellent wines and interesting grounds. I would suggest making an appointment if you are interested in visiting and tasting. In Logrono, a “tapas crawl” is a must. There is a very narrow “street” lined with great tapas bars. Start around 10 pm, with a short beer as an “amuse bouche”. I can’t remember the name of the street, but do recall Paganos and Blanco y Negro tapas bars.
Also, if you are interested in more of a Garnacha experience, I would suggest going northeast into Navarra DO. Tandem produce very nice wines and the grounds are a good experience. I am not clear on your parameters, but I am familiar with these 2 and their wines.
Calle Laurel. The pintxo crawl there is a fantastic experience. Don’t bother getting more than one pintxo per bar, they typically have a specialty. Bring your appetite. We ended up doing this for dinner both nights we stayed in Logroño and didn’t regret it.
Going from Logroño towards Haro, roughly
Murrieta is definitely worth a visit
Artadi is a decent tour and great tasting, if you like their style (not a huge fan)
Laguardia is a cool hilltop town, close to the next two wineries. Good place to stop by for lunch and walk around a bit
Ysios is a beautiful building but not a fan of the wines at all
Eguren Ugarte is a picturesque winery with an enjoyable tour including their extensive caves, have some interesting wines as well
Baigorri is an amazing winery/tour, the extensive lunch as part of the tasting was impressive, but preferred their Albariños to their Riojas. Very much still worth a visit imo
Remirez de Ganuza provides an informative tour, and was one of the better places for modern Rioja for my taste
(Now in Haro)
Lopez de Heredia is a must, although I’ve heard they’ve locked down the ability to visit?
Roda was my favorite modern winery to visit and taste - next door to LdH, offered a fascinating contrast doing them consecutively
Gomez Cruzado has an interesting history and gave an informative tour. Wines were hit and miss but some wines were pretty fascinating
CVNE and LRA are kind of institutions, so I’d recommend hitting one if you can’t do LdH
Muga offers lots of wines by the glass in their tasting room, so unless you love their style I’d recommend skipping the tour
