Wineries in St. Emilion

We will be on a Regent cruise spring 2023. Looking for places to go in St. Emilion as we can get a driver through the ship to tale us to wineries, but I don’t know all that much on wineries there as all of my experience has been in the Medoc not St. Emilion. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I hope you take some time to walk around the town as it’s amazing, and not very big. I advise good footwear as some streets are steep. I can’t help you much with the winery question but I’ve heard Couvent des Jacobins has amazing underground cellars in the old city wall.

Presumably you get bussed there? (The river doesn’t go through St Emilion).

It’s small with not many producers being really walkable from the centre. So if you have a driver just pick places that interest you, write nicely well in advance. If you can’t write in French use DeepL to translate.

I and many others on WB recommend that you ask Henri Challeau to be your guide. I don’t know at which port you are arriving or from which port you will need to be returned but Henri can pick you up at Bordeaux and return you to Le Verdon if necessary. He has done that for us and others that we referred to him.

John at Gourmet Touring is fantastic. British couple that set up shop in Bordeaux that cater to English speaking tourists. Set up a whole 3 day Bordeaux trip for me. Definitely recommend a visit to Chateau Canon.

Unless you are bent on St Emilion, I’ll throw in a suggestion for adjacent Pomerol where prior visits to Vieux Chateau Certan and La Conseillante were truly enjoyable experiences.

Thanks, about the same distance.
