We will be in San Diego area for a week.
Any suggestions of couple of wineries to visit please? I don’t like big, bold, oaky wines. The less oak and vanilla the better. I prefer more restrained style. Right bank BDX and Nebbiolo based wines are my favorite.
Thank you
It’s better to bring/buy your favorite bottles here. I tasted up and down the county and unfortunately the wine fell short.
You won’t find that in SD. Honestly, Temecula is a long way to go (and traffic can make it a 2 hour drive much of the time). Stay in town, go to the zoo, go to coronado, or any number of other places by the water.
I’m not driving 4hrs round trip just to drink Temecula wine, and you should too. Rather speakeasies hopping or breweries hopping if you really wanna drink local crafts.
Makes sense - thank you. Will focus on sightseeing and hiking.
[Home - Los Pilares] makes decent wines you can taste in SD.
Thank you. I will check it out.
Thanks all. We are back. It was a nice trip. Breweries in San Diego were great. Small towns north of San Diego are nice. I ended up drinking wines from TJ that had good selection of BDX (e.g. Ch. Meyney). On the way to Palm Springs we stopped by Temecula valley and did wineries hopping with 3-4 tastings. Wines were decent, nothing spectacular, but nice establishments, scenery and customer service.
