Wine tasting stem charms/name tags - annoying or useful?

I’m hosting a small in-home tasting next week and I’d like to make sure the guests don’t mix up their glasses; seems to happen all the time at other’s tastings I’ve attended. I’ve found several options online but they either appear to be annoying/noisy/goofy looking. I’d like something that people can either remember, or personalize (i.e. write their name on it). Or, if you think they’re not needed, tell me that too!

The easy solution: A black Sharpie

I don’t like the ones that are flowers or charms because after a few glasses of wine, I can’t frickin’ remember what flower I am

Recently, however, a friend gave me a set that look like small dog tags attached to a chain. They say such things like Vixen, Dude, Fox, Stud, Hunk, etc. They work great.

+1

A friend taught me that trick and it works great, washes right off. Really it’s the only easy option for labeling decanters.

Excellent! Just tried it and it washed right off as promised. I will have everyone sign their glass upon arrival. A contract to drink. Very cool.

Yeah right, after a few glasses every guy thinks he’s the “Stud”.

As useful as fresh dingleberries.

How has dingleberry season been this year Victor?

Charms/tags are very useful. Its when each guest has 4 glasses in front of them that things get messy…

The 2010 Noo Yawk heat and humidity have made ideal growing conditions. Full of anti-oxidants, too. Plentiful enough for Freemott and me to garnish the dishes of our favorite Gweilo tourists.

+1 for charms, they work just fine. We have a good 20-30 of them.

If you do the Sharpie method do NOT write on the top of the base. It will rub off during the party. Write on the underside of the base. Charms work too as long as people can remember what charm they were given. Ones that are very distinct help.

Big fan of the Sharpie though we have a box of paper doughnut shaped glass labels that work well too
Gave away boxes and boxes of charms

Charms are shite! Go with the sharpie!

I use 1/2" labels and everyone puts their initials on them. More durable than the sharpie (no smearing) and just as easy to remove at the end of the night.

I know some people who use grease pencil like a sharpie.

When it’s not a wine tasting, just a dinner party, we started using stemless glasses, for which we use colorforms. Now our friends look for those even when every glass is a proper stem. They work great.

Charms are SO yesterday, just make sure everyone is wearing different color lip stick!!

They stick to the roundness of the glass? Great idea.

These appear to be static-style stickers, right? (and you must say that three times fast)

So these could work, right? [cheers.gif] [snort.gif] newhere
