When tasting wine do you find your olfactory senses are more predominate on one side than the other ?
I get more aromatic characteristics on one side and have been asked about it when someone watches me smell only through my right nostril. I was wondering if others experience this too ?

My right. No big deal. Don’t know if it is inherent or just the way I cock my head.
Nope, I just stick my whole nose in. I’ve seen some % of people cock their head to one side and sniff, but never though about why they do it that way. I guess if you hear better out of one ear, then it stands to reason…
We had a tasting room pourer go into great depth about the concept of a “dominant nostril”. It was a slow day and he was a bit of a character, so we couldn’t decide whether we were being “had” or whether he was serious. But I will admit that, just like when you have a cold and the congestion often moves from one side to the other, it stand to reason you might have greater sniffing capacity on one side. What I’m not sure of is whether (a)the only factor is one that shifts depending on your sinuses at a given time or (b)you truly have better essence discerning abilities on one side and that side doesn’t change.
