Wine / Spirits shipping - stores in WI that ship in WI?

Looking to find a store in Wisconsin with a good wine and whiskey selection that ships in state. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!!

Hi Jim,
I am a long time WI resident and have shopped pretty much everywhere and dont ever recall seeing anyone offering local shipping like i often see in other states. That said, I’ve never looked either.

Shipping aside, your best bets (for wine) are: Waterford Wine Merchants, Square Wine (in Madison) and Ray’s Liquor in Wauwatosa. In my opinion it goes pretty steeply down hill from there.

Club Liquor in Neenah used to be an absolute honey hole, but under new ownership the last few years those days appear to have passed.

Good luck.

Thanks Andy… Yes, I’m getting the impression that it may not be legally permitted.

I thought Wisconsin allowed out of state shipping. Is that only on wine?

As a WI resident myself, I agree with these recommendations! Waterford Wine has been fantastic. Ray’s also has a wonderful selection, albeit on the higher side for prices.

Wisconsin may allow shipping by wineries, but I’m seeing almost nothing from stores. Was hoping to ship someone in Wisconsin some bourbon as a gift from a WI retailer, but at least via Wine-Searcher, I’m not seeing much.

Jim, what’s the bottle? Trying to see if I can help.

I’m just really looking for a place where I could buy a gift in the $50-70 range and ship to a co-worker. I live in IL and we work virtually all the time. Buying gifts for others in the past, using an in-state retailer if a state allows shipping is easiest, but worst case I can just pack it up myself and label as vinegar or something like that. I’m just kind of shocked that WI doesn’t seem to have many options for this (or any).

Judging by what goes on in that state, I’m not.

Most of the cheese understands only three words; brew, brandy and Jager. [stirthepothal.gif]

in an article, written by Charlie House, in the Milwaukee Journal in 1966. House notes that Wisconsinites consume 12 times as much brandy as the rest of the United States, and he then ponders and refutes various theories. Maybe it’s the weather, but 11 other states are colder. Then he notes our German and Polish roots, but again, nine states had larger Polish populations, and six states had more German residents, but none of those states came close to Wisconsin’s brandy consumption. The real reason, he says, has to do with access. “One time, years ago, when bourbon was rationed because of the war, an awful lot of brandy was shipped into Wisconsin. Because it was easier to get than whisky, people drank brandy and got to like it. In 1946, Christian Brothers brandy was shipped here in quantity. About thirteen strong distributors were established to get brandy on the market significantly.”

Fascinating!

Wi liquor trade severely limited bc of the tavern league.

You forgot about the packers…
