Any suggestions for decent wine shops in Vegas? I have been to Lee’s Discount Liquor (on Sunset) in the past and have found some gems (e.g. DuMOL and Kosta Browne) at very decent pricing. Any other locations that one might recommend that offers a good selection at good prices?
This is a joke right? seriously though T-Bone hit it right with Marche Bacchus although it’s a ways off the Strip. 55 degrees is way too pricey and Lee’s is the devil.
I was just there a few weeks ago…there’s this wine shop that’s “closing out” some wine. I think they had some decent pricing on Radio Coteau ($45 i think) and a couple others. It’s in the Venetian right next to where you get on the guest elevators and where bouchon cafe is located. Not sure if it’s still going on, but I picked up a bottle of almaviva when I was there. Again, not bargain deals, but when you hit low WS price in vegas I think you’re doing well.
Actually, I’m not. Lee’s as a whole is no better than BevMo, but in the past I have been able find the 04 KB Kanzler, 05 DuMOL Chloe, and 03 Les Forts de Latour for well below W-S prices. But I will check out March Bacchus. Thanks!
Paul, if your going to Marche Baccus you should have lunch there also on the patio overlooking the lake. They will open any wine you purchase. Don’t forget to check the Burg section hiding on the side wall, good deals occasionally.
The place Eugene is talking about is Double Helix and it is actually on the Palazzo side of the Venetian, They have a small boutique store and an open air wine bar right out side of the shop.
If you venture off the strip, say to Marche Baccus, you could also swing by Boca Park and go to Lee’s and Total Wine. They’re located across the parking lot from each other. Between the two you can find lots of good stuff. Recently walked out of Lee’s with a 1996 Gruaud Larose and 1996 Leoville Poyferre for $120 total.
I’ve eaten at Marche a couple times and the food is great and the wine selection and prices are reasonable. The advice above about finding the Burgs on the side wall is well said. My first trip there I walked right by that without noticing it.
As a resident of Las Vegas, here are my thoughts:
– Lee’s: Decent selection, but generally overpriced
– Total Wine: Better selection and discounts aplenty (in Henderson/Stephanie and Boca Park/Las Vegas)
– Marcche Baccus: Great place, great wine, great food – make a lunch of it and bring wine back to your hotel
– Khoury’s: A small operation on Eastern/Henderson, but decent deals at times
– Double Helix: Generally good if you want to byob and pay corkage
– Venetian: Didn’t know about this small shop, but will check it out
As a resident, I generally purchase online, save on sales tax and look for shipping deals (on don’t buy anything during the summer months).
