Not sure if this is the right forum but have a question about what can be recycled and what not from wine shipping containers. I know to recycle the cardboard boxes. But what about the part that secures and protects the bottles - the white foamy thing or the gray plaster-of-Paris looking things? I end up throwing the latter two into the trash. What with this being shipping season, I have a bunch to dispose of.
An alternative is to give them to a nearby wine shop that ships. They always seem appreciative.
Some of the Styrofoam can be recycled. Check the top and bottom to see if a recyclable icon is present (the circle made out of arrows).
I don’t know about the pulp molds but I put them in the recycling bin just in case.
The white foamy things? You mean styrofoam? You can dissolve it with orange oil, give to a wine store, or put in the trash and it will be sent to a landfill.
The gray things? You mean the paper? Those are from the recycled newspaper and cardboard boxes you put into the recycling. Just put those with the other paper products and they can be recycled again. Or mash them with some other paper products and water and make your own fireplace logs.
It depends on your local waste management. In Los Angeles County, residents can put Styrofoam into our blue recycling bins. Most places in the country do not recycle Styrofoam though.
As far as I know, those are just stiffer versions of those grey egg cartons, paper pulp that can go in with other mixed paper for recycling, as Greg says.
