Wine Seeker: 2002 Tormaresca Masseria Maime

I absolutely love this wine-- negroamaro from Puglia. Huge and complex nose of tar, crushed berries, licorice, leather with velvety currant and black cherry on the palate, finishing with sweet tannins. Both the '01 and the '02 were outstanding, and I have been trying to source these wines for the past two years for a reasonable price. I have previously ordered this wine from one of the phantom retailers based in NJ or NY that seem to dominate Wine Searcher these days, of course to no avail. I just found some of the '02 at Flemington Central Liquors in NJ on sale for $19.99 per (I paid $22 a bottle in '06 according to CT). They now have 18 bottles left (I took a case!). This wine gets very little love on the wine boards for some reason, but in my view is one of the best QPR’s around.
