Wine Searcher Pro

Noticed my subscription expired. Went to renew and saw the price has moved up from the $60 or so I paid to $85. I’m not buying as much wine these days, so I am thinking about it. Not paying the $85 will probably save me money in the end, from not buying more wine…

I renewed at $84.99 this month for an annual membership for PRO. I use wine-seacher almost daily

I don’t subscribe to Jancis, but like getting her scores for free with WS Pro.

I’ve been toying with the idea of purchasing a Pro subscription but I keep talking myself out of it, reasoning that I’m basically able to find the wines I want with the standard version. Does the Pro version really unlock a lot more?

I love going there just to look.

It’s like Wine Zillow!

I’ve had mixed results with WS Pro. I would say that it definitely opens up a lot more search results, but the usefulness of those results will very. You will often find a good deal only to realize that the shop does not ship out of state.

I had WS Pro for a year, and chose not to renew. I have a number of shops that I have discovered through WS, but none of them require pro. I’ve found a more effective way to source wine at a good price is to sign up for the email marketing at shops that price wine fairly. Typically those offers go out to loyal customers prior to the being posted on WS. By the time a coveted Burgundy at a reasonable price hits WS it is often gone.

There is one caveat though. The advanced search option is behind the WS Paywall. This allows you to search for a specific bottle in specific format, and I believe that translates over to the alerts you can set as well. So if you are trying to source some hard to find Mags or Jeros it can be worth it’s weight in gold.

been a PRO subscriber for a while now and I do find justification for it when I’m able to find a great deal on a bottle

I do miss the old market place where you were able to post for sale listings

If anyone needs me to run a search just PM and i can help out

I’ve had it forever and think it’s an essential tool.

Not only when I’m shopping, but I find it interesting just to see what things cost — for example, people are discussing some Grand Cru Burg, I’m not going to buy it but it’s interesting to have context of what the wine’s current value is.

I will say, the operation seems to be glitchier the last year or so. It often gives me global results even though I specify only USA, on my iPhone I can’t paste a name into the search bar now unless I’ve already put at least one text item in there. Nothing huge but it seems strange it’s getting less sharp rather than more sharp with time.

I can’t imagine not having pro. Totally worth the new price, to me.

Um, do you know that you can limit searches to retailers in your state and retailers who ship to your state, while omitting retailers who don’t ship to your state?

Yeah, but I find this feature to be largely inaccurate as a WA resident. WS will filter out many shops that do in fact ship to WA and sometimes include shops that don’t.

The pro version certainly helped me find a lot of bottles I wouldn’t have found with the free version (In Europe)

Not every store wants to advertise where the ship.

I think it’s worth the price if you are buying wine. It certainly saved me money over the years. I did not renew it last year because I pretty much stopped buying wine. If I was still buying wine, I would pay the $85.

Same. It’s too bad because it’s really an enabler. But one good find and it pays for itself.

Yes on both counts.
