Email alerts, which worked well for me on a couple of impossible to find 2010 Burgs that I’d have otherwise missed
Additional stores in search results, occasionally helpful for finding local specials
I don’t currently subscribe but would if they’d add a price-change notification feature. You currently don’t get emails if a new seller with a lower price is added - that would be an extremely useful feature.
I always subscribed even if the Pro version provided only incremental value because the service itself provided incredible value and I wanted to help keep them going. Tossing $40 their way was nothing compared to the savings and overall information the site provided.
If I derive real value from a service and don’t financial support that service, it could easily just go away. And who loses then? Me.
The $40 is a pittance to support someone who provides great value to me. To not subscribe, as a user, is really self-defeating even if I could ride the generosity of their robust free offering.
The once or twice I had minor technical issues with the site, their customer service was highly responsive, helpful, and quick to straighten out the problems.
I have to laugh when winegeeks can say with a straight face that WS has “saved” them dinero.
Although it is nice to see all the prices out there for any wine you want, the tool is more like an enabler, similar to credit cards, that let’s us spend more than we need or want to on wine. This leads to discussions like…“But honey, I saved $40 a bottle on that Bachelet Charmes-Chambertin!” (meanwhile stocking up on 2 cases since you got it for such a great price!)
+2. I’ve saved a lot by finding out that the email “deal” I just received in my inbox is actually cheaper elsewhere. This is only really possible with the Pro version, due to the increased number of stores.
That’s a valid point. Every resource in the world of wine, whether CT, WB, W-S Pro, WA, WS, winebid, etc. has the potential and likelihood of encouraging you to spend more money. If I were really serious about cutting way back on wine spending, I guess cutting off WS Pro could be a possible step to take.
Aside from its use in finding wines and deals, I also like just using WSPro. It’s a great quick reference to what wines actually cost and how available they are, even just for curiousity or as part of discussions on here.
