Hi - will likely be in Florence in August - recommendations on restaurants with best wine lists and any shops worth visiting? Particularly interested in Brunello from top producers, was in Montalcino in March and was hard to find shops that didn’t have pricing on par with US pricing, but curious if anyone has any recs.
Enoteca Pontevecchio! Ask for the owner, Tony Sasa. Quite a charming character.
For restaurants, Enoteca Pinchiorri has one of the world’s great wine lists. In 1982, I drank the 1967 Sassicaia there. It was the only place one could do that. It has 3 stars from Michelin and prices to match.
I’ve heard great things about La Buchetta Food & Wine Restaurant:
As @R_M_Kriete mentioned http://pittigolaecantina.com/ is a must visit. You can do a tasting or chat with one of the owners about the incredible selection of older chianti’s they have at very reasonable prices. It’s a great spot for light meal or afternoon bites with great wine. If you search WB you’ll see some great reviews for them.
Some of the other spots sound great and we’ll be back in Florence in early October.
Ate a La Buchetta last night. Amazing. Great food, great service, great wine, GREAT STEAK. Started with mozzarella sampler. Then gnocchi with straccietella. Followed by Florentine streak with roasted potatoes and spinach. Finished with a light and airy marscapone cheesecake. Wonderful meal paired with a 2013 Poliziano Montepulciano. Super overall experience.
Pitti Gola for sure, also their second wine bar Enoteca Giusti. ALso try Le volpi e l’Uva. A lot of places could be closed in August
Good restaurant wine lists that could be open in August:
Osteria dell’Enoteca
Leggenda dei Frati (great place with fantastic views of downtown)
Il Palagio at the Four Seasons
