Currently skiing on the mountain and did not have a chance to browse the menu for tonight’s dinner.
Looking to spend under $200 but will go to 250 if needed. Most likely a red wine since it’s a meat heavy menu. Thanks in advance.
I tend to skew cheap when I’m ordering off a wine list so here’s what I’d look at:
JB Neufeld Cabernet
Limerick Lane Zin
Poliziano Vino Nobile
Valenciso Rioja
The 2017 Paloma intrigues me, as I used to like Paloma Merlot a fair bit but I haven’t one in about 25 years.

Not a red, but we were very impressed by Albino Rocca’s cortese
I like Rizzi’s Barbaresco wines, but oddly wouldn’t rule out La Spinetta’s Barolo. They’re made in a style I don’t like that much, where upfront intensity is prized, but that can work in its favour when there’s no bottle age.
I like Speri’s Amarone, so would be tempted by their valpolicella.
Musar’s Hochar a nice choice if there’s any spice in the food (and a good wine if there isn’t) and I’d also be looking at the xinomavro for value.

I would try the Alfio Mozzi Valtellina Superiore or the Favati Tourasi. They have good age on them 2012 and 2013, and because they are not that’s well know varieties, they are under your budget. Not sure what you are going to have food wise, but go with the Tourasi if something heavier.

The U.S. Pinot selection is very nice. The Read Holland Deep End and Deovlet La Encantada stand out as great wines at (relatively) good prices. Turley Ueberroth Zin, too.

I also skew inexpensive on this kind of list and look for bottle age.
Vague good memories of tasting one Balboa wine a while ago, a 10 year old Cab for $116 looks solid.
2017 Lioco Carignan should be burly and warming. Very fine producer.

That is a really solid list.
Ended up going with the 2015 Balboa and it was a perfect choice especially with the venison. Somm said it was a hidden gem on the list, and he had over two cases to sell which is why the price was so customer friendly.
