Wine list at Parc restaurant in Philly

I searched the messages on WB and didn’t see any comments on their wine list. I did learn that they have a $25 corkage fee. Parc is heavy on French wines which is not my forte.

Anyone have suggestions for some good reds on their list?

Not sure what price range you are looking for, but from that list for reds I personally would look at the Olga Raffault Chinon “Picasses” or the Pradeaux Bandol. Neither is exactly a bargain at those prices, but such are restaurant wine prices in PA. I’d expect both to benefit from significant air, especially the Pradeaux, if that’s something you wanted to arrange in advance.

I would definitely pay for corkage here. Markups are 3x or higher. Olga Raffault Les Picasses, for example, is a $30 wine they are selling for $105. Hard pass

Thanks for the input. In researching the wines I did notice that wines in the $100-$140 range were retailing in the $30-40 range. That got me thinking paying corkage is worth it.

If you have nice wine at home I would definitely pay corkage. You don’t have to drink French wine if you don’t want to, the food here is very wine friendly in general I’d say

I suspect that you know this but just in case, be aware that your options for local purchase will be limited and relatively expensive. Best to bring with you if possible.

If the question is whether to take advantage of the corkage policy rather than “are there any good reds on the list,” yes, absolutely I would take advantage of the corkage policy 100 visits out of 100.

True, though DiBrunos is close and usually has some good and not too badly priced bottles.

Suburban blinders- I always forget the bottle shops. Point well taken.

There is also gran cafe l’aquilla, which actually has some cool Italian bottles, though the prices are even higher than other retailers…

Stephen Starr’s restaurants - of which this is one - tend to have good food and ambience, but sadly over the last few years I have found the wine markups to be beyond the pale. I’d take the BYO option. If you do buy from their list, the best value is amongst the Rhone and Cru Beaujolais.

I don’t recall Parc’s corkage policy but a lot of Starr restaurants didn’t allow corkage at least a decade ago. I’d pay the corkage. The Fine Wines (PLCB) at 2040 Market Street seems to have the best selection in the state.

Thx everyone for the input. Parc does allows corkage ($25). I plan to bring a bottle.
