Wine Insurance: Horton

AIG has pulled out of the CA market for wine insurance :frowning:

Anyone here had any experience with Horton: Wine Collection Insurance | Horton Group

Would appreciate your insight on this matter.

Who?

(Sorry, but I had to)

Not an answer to your question-haven’t looked into Horton-but I use Bluewater. No real info to share. Never had a claim. They are pretty efficient at accepting my payment.

Got dropped by AmWINS, which used to insurance for everything + earthquake in CA.

Having trouble finding a company that will do both. And some of them are requiring a generator in my house to insure for AC breakdown.
This has been a frustrating experience to say the least.

The following are some options posted over on the Cellartracker site. No affiliation or experience with either.

BlueWater Insurance: Designed for the wine collector, program features include full value coverage for individual bottles and entire collection of wine assets, extreme temperature protection, shipping and more. https://bluewater-ins.com/fine-wine-insurance

InsureMyWine: This was crafted jointly by The Wine Services Alliance and Ellis Insurance. Through their partnership, a tailored wine insurance program offering preferred pricing, simple administration, broad coverage, and low deductibles is now available. www.insuremywine.com

There is also a post in the Cellartracker forum wherein an agent is offering coverage via another alternative. If your using Cellertracker go to the forum and search “Wine Insurance”

Horton is an insurance agency. AIG is an insurance company. If you are losing AIG, Horton can likely recommend a new insurer for you.

Alliant is the agency that handles my AIG insurance. Horton carries QBE as the carrier for their wine policy in CA.

Bluewater doesn’t offer earthquake coverage. Anyone in CA have an insurer that does?

The one I am looking has coverage, albeit at 70% your regular coverage.

Earthquake coverage? What insurer?

Horton Agency with QBE as carrier.

QBE requires a generator on premises

I added my wine to my State Farm personal articles policy (my wife’s engagement ring and some rare books are on it too). Cost +/- 0.2% of the collection for a year.

For offsite storage or in-home? My State Farm agent told me I could only get it included in my personal articles policy if it was stored at my house.

My State Farm agent told me my off-site collection was covered, with no additional policy. The prior two posts are worrying, to say the least. Though maybe Oregon insurers are of a different mind than California insurers. I re-inquired a couple of years ago, and will do so again.

Just checked with State Farm here (SoCal), they won’t insure wine as part of my home policy.

If anyone knows of a carrier that would do Earthquake/Fire/etc in CA without forcing me to add generators etc, please let me know.

In an earlier cellar insurance thread Chubb was mentioned as a good option.

Yes, Chubb insures my wine; I’ve never filed a claim, but, as someone said above, they’re good at taking my money…not too outrageous.
