Wine in Hawaii

First time in Hawaii coming up. I’ll be on Kauai and Maui. Any notable wine shops to hit up for enjoyment while there?

Wailea wine is a touch pricey but the best selection by far. Tamuras liquor store will have some more generic options at a better price. Costco in kahului is, well, Costco so pretty good.

The Wine Shop in Koloa, on the south side of Kauai, is worth checking out. I don’t know if they still do it, but they used to have a list of restaurants that would waive corkage fees on bottles purchased there.

(I think most people say Hawaii is a bit of a wine desert and plan to bring their own.)

While I usually do bring some wine when I visit Hawaii, I’ve been surprised by some of the wines I see on restaurant wine lists. Marcassin and Sine Qua Non are 2 producers that I’ve seen in multiple restaurants at not-obscene markups over the mailing list price. To be fair, though, a SQN red isn’t the first wine that comes to mind when pairing with Hawaiian cuisine.

Costco!

On Kauai, https://princevillewinemarket.com/

DRC, Dujac, Opus, Krug…they have it all! Bought some Vilmart Rose and Walter Scott Chard last time we were there.

That’s a cool shop in Primceville

I was in Maui last August. Of all places I found Occidental Pinot for around $80 at the ABC store in whalers village to bring to dinner at a corkage free place. Great score

Yea, don’t sleep on the ABC stores. I’ve also seen Opus One at an ABC store. :man_shrugging: Wouldn’t go wine shopping at one per se, but when in one, worth taking a peek.

The one at Whalers Village had a bunch of pretty good wines, but the occidental Pinot stood out because it was both good and a very fair price
