I feel like this is an annoying question, , apologies if it is,
I’m going to drive for an hour to bring a wine home soon - my car doesn’t have A/C so it’ll be well hot. If I put a red in a little cooler with ice, I’m sure that’ll keep it plenty cool, but I don’t have to worry about it then getting too cold, do I? Or if the bottle touches the ice in there, if that can be damaging. I know it’s a short amount of time but I wasn’t sure how sensitive it could be.
Honestly if you had more than one bottle you wouldn’t even need a cooler. A full case packed in close together has enough thermal mass to stay cool for quite a while, definitely an hour.
Have no fear. Cold is not the enemy of wine, heat is.
The most dangerous part of freezing a wine bottle is pushing the cork or cracking the glass. The wine itself can take very cold temps, especially for a short window of time
