Wine impressions 9-12-26
2021 Extradimensional, Mourvèdre Evangelho - 12.7% abv; after about 40 minutes in the decanter, the most enjoyable Mourvèdre I’ve had from anywhere in memory. Complex but integrated, beautiful fruit yet savory nuance abounds, deep but lightweight, structured but textural, with a long finish. It bounces between new world and old and remains intellectually intricate while being soulfully pleasing. Likely has years to peak but it’s about as good a red wine right now as I could ask.
A masterpiece.
2020 Foillard, Morgon Côte du Py - 14% abv; big, lush ‘red wine product’ with muddy flavors, cloying texture and unrecognizable as either Beaujolais or Gamay.
Poor.
2021 Foillard, Morgon Côte du Py - 12.5% abv; what a difference a year makes - lovely red fruited, clearly recognizable Morgon, with cut, structure and sustain. Full of joy and energy.
Very fine.
2022 Vincent, Pinot Noir Ribbon Ridge - 12.5% abv; a couple years in the cellar have served this well; mid-weight, bright, mostly red fruit Pinot with a firm backbone and excellent integration. Surely, a couple more years of age would be nice but this has arrived and was delicious on two consecutive days.
Fine.
2025 Domaine du Majas, Blanc - 11.5% abv; a favorite of both of us; a charming, textural white blend from the south of France that is always pleasing, has just enough savory to be great with lighter fare and yet always puts the fruit first. I love this wine. About $20.

2022 Christian Clerget, Chambolle-Musigny - 13% abv; one sniff, one taste, there is no doubt; this is Chambolle. Concentrated but alive with excellent depth, lovely high tones and structure. Oh so young but oh so good! A presence on the palate that is forceful and yet it dances in the mouth; it delivers the Burgundy experience, even at a young age. I don’t have much experience with this house but I will definitely have more.
