For the low low price of $74.99 a pop for an excellent Cal. Cab of this quality. I bought this instead of my QC allotment today.
The 97 was great. I have to assume that the 07 will be too.

I think 95 was the last vintage I tried. Have they gotten that much better to rate a 97+ or is it a change in style that RP likes?

Paul the 97 was terrific. I had a glass of the 01 that was a restrained and lovely wine. They are not the big bonkers to answer your question.
Alex does put out some nice offers now and again…like that Chapoutier one!
I think 75 is the release price from the winery themselves…making this wine generally a pretty good QPR. The 2005 and 2006 have been available in the mid-60s, but they don’t have the huge RP score of the 2007.
Huh. We got a screaming deal a few years ago ($125/case) for the 2001, and we’ve been consistently underwhelmed by it. It started off rather simple and over-oaked, and time hasn’t done much to improve it. Maybe just a matter of divergent personal preferences.
Are we supposed to just guess which wine you are referring to?

I had a glass of it at an offline a couple of years ago and it showed well. Are you sure it was their Estate wine you bought for $10 a bottle Steve?

Yup. We dumped some of the last few bottles on fellow Heeb Zachary. Twas the Estate. $10/bottle for two cases from a local guy’s cellar. He hated it that much.

Jack: We got the “Snowden Vineyards” bottling. I believe that at that time they offered a Napa Valley blend, as well as a couple of single vineyard bottlings. So this may be an apples to oranges comparison.
This wine and the 01 I spoke of were the Estate Reserve cab. They also had a Snowden Cabernet, a Snowden Ranch and a Sav Blanc. The two lesser wines were no where near the Reserve. They haven’t raised the price for the Reserve in 10 years.

La Massa’s 2007 Giorgio Primo: 97 points and only $52!
Go ahead and look. Bust out your Wine Spectator Advanced Search function on winespectator.com and check it out. Type in the numbers, the vintage, the whole shootin’ match. You’ll come up with the same results we did. From the great 2006 and 2007 vintages in Tuscany, the 2007 La Massa Giorgio Primo is the highest scoring wine from Jim Suckling under $100 a bottle!
To tell the truth, even though we are huge fans of proprietor Giampaolo Motta’s wine we were a bit sceptical when we saw the score. 97 points? C’mon. So we waited for the wine to show before we sold it so we could taste for ourselves. Holy Cow! What a wine! Giampaolo and his winemaking team, including Bordeaux’s Stéphane Derenoncourt, have outdone themselves with this Bordeaux-inspired blend of Merlot, Cab and Petit Verdot. It’s stellar, and we’re not afraid to say it bumps heads with the top classified growths from which it draws it’s inspiration. Check out the notes below and you’ll see what we mean.
Oh, and don’t forget that Giampaolo also makes what may be one of the finest deals on a ‘Super-Tuscan’ wine with his entry level La Massa IGT. All of the Sangiovese that used to go into Giorgio Primo now finds its way into the ‘little’ La Massa, making this a wine that drinks like double its price!

La Massa’s entry level IGT was #31 in the Top 100 last year so it’s only fitting that their big dog cracks the Top 30 this year. Could 97 points actually be a conservative score for this wine? This offering clearly runs with wines twice the price, it’s current price making it a fine value for what’s in the glass.
