Wine glasses choice dilemma

I’ve never had a glass break in the dishwasher, and we mostly use the Grassl Liberte and 1855. Conversely, I broke multiple Riedels back when I was exclusively hand washing.

FWIW, as others have said here, the Riedel glasses feel heavy and ‘dated’ compared to Grassl and Glasvin.

Probably the best all around glass on the market to me - in that price point especially.
Similar in shape and outcome as the (much more pricy Conterno)

If your budget is quite a bit more more, the zalto bdx is great.

Grassl 1855 if you’re going to be drinking bordeaux blends and Italian reds. No brainer. They are far more refined than the Riedel Bordeaux, which is a very good a highly functional glass.

I own a lot of glasses, and the Grassl line is among my favorite. I would have no hesitation buying those, and the 1855 sounds like it would be a perfect fit for you.

Thank you all. I am leaning to get eight Grassl 1885 glasses. CJF sells them through Walmart online with extended return until January 31 2025, returnable to any Walmart store. Gives me enough time and convenience to try them out. I wonder whether they might go on sale on black Friday, but usually high end stuff like this does not go on sale.

Thank you, Jim.

I noticed glasvin website says to use dishwasher bottom rack??? I thought I heard everyone here say top tack

Grass 1855 for what you’re drinking

Many stems won’t fit into the upper rack.

Another nod to the 1855s

I tried the Grassl 1855s in a restaurant once (older Bordeaux) and thought to myself if I was replacing my Zaltos, they would be on the very short list to try at home, along with the Conterno Sensory. Am also thinking that if I was in that mode, I’d be getting 2, and if one broke, move on to 2 of something else before making a final decision on more. (Somehow the 1855s felt slightly shorter than the Zaltos, with different balance. Not necessarily a bad thing though.)

Buy one to try. Grassl has run some nice deals on berserkerday, which is not that far off.

If I may suggest, buy your new glasses directly from the CJF website. The owner is a Berserker, has excellent customer service (including a replacement program in case you ever break one), and buying direct sends more of the profit to the small business doing all the work instead of the mega-corp acting as the middle man.

Good point - thanks

Came across these:

Seem like a cheaper alternative to the Schott Zwiesel Conterno Sensory Glass

Glasvin has a similar one as well. Guessing there are a few more out there

I am enjoying 4 different glasses at the moment.
For Nebbiolo i am using the Riedel Winewings Nebbiolo. Hard to lose control of the swirl area. Pretty amazing actually.
For Riesling I am using the Riedel Winewings Riesling for same reason above. Just an incredible experience.
For Pinot I am loving (still) the Glasvin Prestige. Beautifully made and just a joy. It replaced my Riedel Vinums.
For special treats of old amazing Barolo and Barbaresco I love the Conterno Sensory.
