I’m waiting patiently for Hurricane Matthew to get his happy ass through South Florida. I don’t have a generator and have too much wine to move to a place that does. So my question is, say I’m out of power for three days, will the wine in my wine fridge be ok? Should the temp and seal keep everything cool enough for a few days as long as we do not open the door?
Depends of a few things. Ambient temperature is a major one. If your outside/room temps are in the mid to high seventies I would imagine a slow creep up on the interior. I would have the generator ready if I had one. Good luck to you and yours.
May already be too late for this. Get as many gallon water jugs as you can and freeze them. You can then use these to keep the wine cellar cooler if you lose power. Hold off using them as long as possible.
I had a wine unit failure a few years ago(I am in CA) and it took 4 days to get the replacement AC. During that time I used block ice in buckets and the temp never got higher than 64 with an ambient temp of 78+. Thermal mass is your friend. Full it with cold soda and water bottles to raise the thermal mass and you should be ok.
I froze water in plastic bottles the size of wine bottles, then stuck those in empty slots in racking in the wine fridge. Keep the fridge closed until power comes back (well, unless you run out of wine first). Good luck.
I’m not seeing the key bit of information here: what will the ambient temperature be? If it will not be terribly warm, you should be fine for days, if not weeks.
