Alan,
Your experience with wine is extensive but I doubt you would call yourself a critic. Rather, critics do their thing as a job, one they know (or should) that will be controversial.
‘Seems to me there is room for both.
As long as nobody takes all of it too seriously, it’s fun.
Personally. I’ve been involved with wine for over 50 years. I took it seriously at times, but that passed. I took critics as gospel but that passed. I made wine and watched others but that passed.
Now, I just drink what I like, try not to spend too much and think of it as fun and good with dinner.
And the only thing in that article I completely agree with is “the best wine is the wine you like best.”
You’re linking to the eugenicist and white-supremacist Crémieux on this site?
I know nothing of the author, found the article interesting.
Is there anyone you would consider off limits amplifying their voice even if they wrote something interesting about wine?
Fair, but now that you DO know something about the author, maybe worth deleting this thread…
Submitted for deletion. I am unable to do that.
When working in a 3 star Michelin restaurant in France, I was having lunch with the staff, reading the Gault and Millau review of their restaurant. It had nothing to do with how the restaurant actually functioned. One of the chefs said “the critics write what the public wants to hear”
