Wine Cellar Monitoring

I think I read that Node supports 10 on the free plan and up to 48 on the commercial plans, business customers seems like what they are targeting more.

Yeah but if they’re 129 a piece that’s not very cost effective

I’m not using them for cellar monitoring (I’m still on a combination of WirelessTag and Ambient Weather), but just to throw another option out there: I have started using some leak sensors from YoLink, and I’ve been happy with the functionality, price, and reliability. I am pretty sure they do also have devices that sense temperature and/or humidity, so they may be another option to consider. It requires a hub, which I know is anathema for some people, but I don’t have an issue with it and I do think that it helps with the reliability vs. trying to piggyback on wifi.

For cellar leaks, I assume – not bottle leaks.

Haha, neither. To detect potential plumbing leaks around things like appliances and sinks. I don’t have any of their sensors in my cellar. I just thought the product line also could have cellar applicability.

I also use Temp Stick. It is reliable, but pricey (currently $139 ā€œon saleā€).

I use the Govee and it’s worked fine for several years.

I’ve been happy with this as well. Definitely seems like some of the other suggestions have some higher level functions, but this does what I need. Can set alerts and it tracks long term data. Same vendor as the led strip lights I use too so one app which is nice.

I use these exact same ones and they work great

Do they connect to WiFi easily?

Do you pay for monitoring (i.e. - is there a monthly subscription to monitor via app)?

I’ve been using WirelessTag mostly happily, but battery life is mixed and reliability of the connection is mid. That may be a range thing, as I’m probably stretching the distances to the tag manager.

The connect to wi-fi great and refresh data on their own frequently or whatever cadence you set the refresh at

I’ll add that no subscription or fee for monitoring - at least at present. Can track from anywhere since it’s WiFi. Alerts for temp or humidity (you can define the threshold) can come to phone or email. As noted - data feed is automatic and can come as often as every 10 minutes.

Yeah- Battery life can be wonky- inconsistent- sometimes get a year, sometimes 2 months. Haven’t had any issues with connectivity in general though.

Also nice if you have multiple le cache cabinets or similar

For the WirelessTags, I have mostly switched to the plug-in models to eliminate the battery ever being an issue. I realize that’s not always an option, but it’s something to consider if you do have power available near where you want the tag.

As others said, no fees.

I had to use a WiFi range extender in the two basement cellars where I used Wireless Tags. Since I already had the extender, I haven’t bothered to see if the Govee could reach my router unassisted. But the router is only about 20 feet away, so it might be fine.

Just ordered a Thermoworks Node temp+humidity monitor, will report back. I like the other items I’ve bought from them.

If you’re ok with temp only and you get a better wifi signal outside of the cellar, there are versions with 1 and 2 external probes.

I like TempStick… reliable and relatively inexpensive ($100/unit), does not require a power supply other than 2 lithium AA batteries… scaleable as well

I didn’t realize they had a plug in version. I need to look into that.
