Wine Bid Shipping to Illinois

Anybody ship from Wine Bid to Illinois yet (with their new policy)? Wondering how to do it and how much trouble it is.

What’s the new policy?
Recently had them ship to MN, but was the same as usual (expensive but reliable).

WBid sent out a notice that they won’t (can’t) ship directly to Illinois customers anymore. Something about having to use a third party. I’m wondering if anyone has gone thru the process yet.

I had a shipment a few weeks ago. The tracking that was provided was horrendous and completely useless. The wines arrived fine without issue at least. I had my wines shipped to my office where I knew someone would be there to sign for them, and I am glad I did, since there was absolutely no notice of when they were out for delivery. I only shipped two bottles so it was OK, but had I been waiting on cases, I would have been extremely frustrated by the process.

Are they using GSN? They made the official switch to GSN after I moved, but if that’s what they’re using, then it’s effectively the same as it has been since they closed the Elmhurst office

Gotcha, didn’t know that. Good luck.

GSN shipped the wines, but it went through some unnamed long-haul carrier. The email with the tracking info had this useless disclaimer as well:

** This tracking number will not contain live tracking information until the shipment has been scanned into possession by your local delivery carrier. **

To see the estimated delivery date, please go to the tracking link above and enter your tracking number.

As I said above, tracking exists, but it is not at all reliable or useful. My shipment was delivered two days before to estimated delivery date. Early delivery is great, using the limited tracking info for planning is a fool’s errand.

Tom how was it expensive to MN? I paid $45 a case and stole all the wines I bought.

I called them direct. They took care of everything for me and no issues. Best over the phone customer service a while.

I’ve been using WineBid for a year and a half but for some moronic reason i seem to ship to myself during summer heat waves or polar vortexes. So I’ve used the priority overnight ($140/case) which is only $5-10 more than 2-day. Once I hit the weather properly & could utilize the $45/case ground delivery.

I was fearful this would be the case. How was the shipping price? I paid $60/case to get my stuff out from GSN right after that email was sent out. Haven’t purchased from WineBid since out of fear those shopping costs could easily double.

Yes at $140 a case nothing I bought was a good deal. Had a case shipped from a winery in Washington this week and Friday in the Twin Cities was perfect but they messed up shipping ground until Tuesday. Hopefully they will be fine.

I only had a couple bottles shipped, so probably not a great comp, but it was somewhere in there $30 range. Like you, I’ve largely stopped my Winebid purchases given the increasing costs.

I just shipped multiple cases and some fairly high value wines, so I was also nervous. Took a week door-to-door with no issues. I was able to track and while the freight service doesn’t provide details in route, it did at the start/finish point and beyond, The delivery was the morning after the temp-controlled freight service landed.

What are you talking about? I am one of the more savvy shoppers on Wine Berserkers and get many deals. The 4 cases I bought from them are all at the best prices now granted I only bought US wines. Winebid is not good for the rest of the world.
