Wine at Work

I am fortunate to work in a fairly laid back office in which (just here in the legal department) we have a dart board, foosball table, and kegerator, which we’ll often enjoy at the end of the day.

For those days where I’d prefer wine to beer, I am considering getting a small (4-6 bottle) wine cooler and keeping it stocked with a couple of relatively inexpensive, but good QPR bottles as well as a few 375s, since the likelihood of my finishing a full bottle over a couple of days at work is much lower than opening a bottle at home.

For those of you who also keep wine at work (excluding shippers that you’re waiting to sneak into the house at an opportune moment), what do you keep around?

LOL

Just stuck a couple 2010 Senejac in mine a few minutes ago.

I usually have a bottle or two of reds. Nothing too extravagant. I go for the crowd pleaser types. They just sit in my drawer as I don’t worry about high temps in my modern building. Usually shoot for $15-25, and something I like.

…is a good way to get fired.

I have a 50-bottle unit in full view in my office, everyone welcome to come in to drink and chat after hours. It really does help spawn collegiality. I keep a range of things like Ridge, Copain, Riesling and some Rhones. My geeky stuff comes home. I also use this fridge as transitional storage from shipments that come in to my office and then i filter back to offsite or home storage. I love having a fridge in the office.

Could not be further from the reality of my workplace. I can’t even get Netflix on the computers (damned IT killjoys!)

We’ll often have folks from all different business units in the company join us for a happy hour on Fridays, with everyone from the company president on down joining in. It really helps make the legal team feel much more accessible to our internal clients. Most of those attending drink beer, but I like the idea of keeping a broader variety of wines available. Hmm… a 50-bottle fridge may be a bit much for my office, but perhaps a 10-12 bottle would work. I’ll create a wine culture within this company yet! [cheers.gif]

So chill in Florida, you guys dress in khaki shorts to court too? [snort.gif] [snort.gif]

Madeira. Indestructible after opening and perfect any time from mid-morning through the rest of the day. I have to credit Michael Broadbent for the inspiration.

Good idea

With linen Guayaberas.

Mint julips on return.

Wine at work?

About 30 pallets of wine downstairs in case I get thirsty

I have all of my wine shipped to work and it usually sits there a while until I take it home. I typically keep a few at the office to take to dinner in case a client wants to go out or if my wife decides to make the excruciating six mile drive into to downtown (15-20 minute drive, with traffic). I don’t leave really good stuff there but just daily drinkers or maybe a level up. And I rarely drink it in the office.

Now beer, that is a different story. There is usually beer in the fridge for when working late.

I am lucky to work out of my home so the cellar is about 25 steps from my office. But in my business alcohol during working hours is so absolutely verboten, even at lunch, that I would not even begin to think about opening a bottle (except to decant something for later) until I am done for the day. Once I open a bottle my office is a no-go zone related to work.
