Windy Oaks Tasting

Dropped by their new tasting room (5 minutes from my house) and tried three of their Pinots.
I haven’t really delved into their wines as much as I should have over the past few years and now there’s no excuse.

1) 2012 Windy Oaks “Wild Yeast” PN - 13.9%
Pale orange/pink/red color. (reminds me of a Kendric or Eyrie in that regard).
Fine nose of strawberries and various spices.
Very spicy red fruited style with a long, slightly hot finish.
Great flavors, but the heat got in the way for me.

2) 2010 Windy Oaks “100% Whole Cluster” PN - 13.9%
Again, light orange/pink/red color.
Wonderful nose of vanilla and various floral spices.
Luscious, elegant balanced red fruits with a long finish.
It has a “smidgen” of heat but not enough to disturb my delicate sensibilities.
The stems manifest themselves in the slightly tannic aftertaste. Subtle, not overpowering.
This wine can still age and improve.

3) 2011 Windy Oaks “Proprietor’s Reserve” PN - 13.5%
Light-medium red (much darker than the previous two, but by no means inky).
Great nose of face powder, caramel and wax. Quite complex.
Spicy, piney red fruits with a long tannic finish. A baby needing several years.
Kinda reminded me of a lightweight Rhys Alpine.
Another winner.

Really loved the light, pale color of these wines!
There’s no shortage of flavor here!

I’ve always loved their whole cluster bottling since their 07 vintage
