Windy Oaks Service

A shipment of Windy Oaks Pinot was delivered to me today … I should say hand delived by Jim and Judy Schultze! Note: Typically their son delivers these in the Monterey/Carmel/Pebble area, but he is in Spain, learning winemaking at the moment.

Jim and Judy had an ulterior motive for the drive South from the Santa Cruz Mts. - they were going on for a hike at Point Lobos. Amazing winerey, amazing service. [thankyou.gif]

Mike,

They didn’t bring lunch too? [basic-smile.gif]

I have been drinking more Windy Oaks than all else combined that past month, going through some of the last of my 2003s and 2004s. The wines are simply outstanding, especially the 2003 Reserve, which is as versatile as pinot can get. We have served it with spicy Chinese and halibut piccata. What an amazing wine…

Philip,

I think the 2005 Estate Cuvee is drinking extremely well right now, especially with a couple hours in a decanter. It is not a sipping wine, it demands the right food (I served it with my Coq Au Vin a couple weeks ago) but I would pop one, you will not be disappointed. With that said, it defintely will improve over the next couple of years so you can’t go wrong…

Regards,
Steve

Steve, I think the only way that you can go wrong with these is drinking them too young. I’m really trying to hold off, although I’ll probably sip an 07 cuvee tonight.

Fellow Berserker Rob MacKay tells me that the 06 Reserve is drinking beautifully at the moment though.

They are delicious when young if you like them that way. I’d love to be able to put more age on mine but I have no will power to resist them and no wallet power to buy them buy the pallet.

They can be delicious when young, but would benefit from some decanter time. Or for the impatient, a gentle shake of the opened bottle. [basic-smile.gif]

I think the 06 Wood Tank is easier to enjoy now compared to the 06 Reserve.

PRob - while I do enjoy them young, I’ve noticed an amazing transformation in them after about 4-5 years in the bottle. Sort of like a good Dehlinger Estate Pinot. I had an 05 Reserve recently and it was a revelation.
