We are planning a little last minute trip to Sonoma County and Anderson Valley, and the inn we are staying at in Healdsburg is owned by the Wilson family. They own a number of wineries and offer free tastings to their lodging guests. Any thoughts on these wineries (see link below)? We are not familiar with any of them. We have our favorite spots that we tend to revisit, so i like the idea of visiting some new spots, if worthwhile.
I have enjoyed Mazzocco and Pezzi King for their Zinfandels. Matrix has been a little more hit or miss-Pinot is their main focus here. In Anderson Valley I would stop by Greenwood Ridge. I haven’t had their wines since the Wilson take over but always enjoyed them in the past. Bonus is they are right next to Navarro.
They make a very wide range of wines over a span of quite a few wineries. Not tasted a lot of them, though.
I used to really like the Mazzocco Zins when Phyllis Zazounis made them. But after they were purchased by Wilson,
the wines took a big jump in price & weren’t worth the price.
But it is a great opportunity to taste thru their lineup at no cost. I would think the Rockpile & the GreenwoodRidge offer the
most interest.

We stayed at a B&B in Healdsburg that was owned by the Wilson family a few years back and visited Wilson and Mazzocco. I thought they both had decent zins, although I remember them being a little oaky. Nice places to visit (Nice grounds, views, etc.)
I didn’t realize Greenwood Ridge was in AV. I thought the wineries were all in Sonoma. We will be switching up our lodging when we hit AV (haven’t booked a place yet), but I’m guessing we’ll still stop in for a tasting. I’ll bring a souvenir from the inn in Healdsburg. ![]()
We enjoy Wilson, Mazzocco and Pezzi King Zins and Petite Sirah. We usually buy some of each every year. Not a fan of their cabernets. I agree with Sean regarding Matrix. We also used to stop by Soda Rock for their cab and cab franc, but it burned down in one of the recent fires. It has been awhile, but I recall enjoying deLorimier’s Sauv Blanc too. Cheers!
Mazzocco produces many Zins (at various price points). If you like Zins you will find something you like at Mazzocco. My wife swears by their Zins. I would also check out Delormier in Geyserville ( another Wilson winery).
Both wineries have large wine club followings.
My mistake, we did visit Mazzocco a few years ago. I recognize it from the website photos. I was not a fan of the zins that we tasted. I don’t recall which ones we tried, but I don’t think it included any of their reserves. It also didn’t help that we tasted at Ridge just before our visit.
