Widely available cheap bright Pinot Noir?

I’m in for a case too. Details?

I’m intrigued by this

Under $20?? Hell yeah I’m in for 6-12.

Corey, guess I’d call it a gastropub.

yes please

Okay. It seems like there is an affirmation of this. I don’t know where else to post except here so if it needs to be moved so be it.

This wine is a 2013. The base of it (about 30 percent) is our Olenik Vineyard, Anklebreaker Block which we bottled on its own in 2011 and 2012 and sold for $57/bottle. That block is Pommard Clone. It is filled out by the Dijon 115 from Olenik, 3 different clones from Lia’s Vineyard and 2 clones from our Estate Vineyard. So, it is a Chehalem Mountain AVA wine. We just don’t have an AVA program. We are pretty much all SVD wines and that is where we exist mentally, spiritually and business wise. This wine is really, really good. I just don’t know that for the volume we have that right now I have the sales and mental time to put the emphasis on this wine and get distributors behind it and such. Lots of winery owner folk here can tell you the same story on stuff. I am super happy with this wine and proud of its CM nature I just would prefer not to engage in a new thrust in sales that differs widely from the general nature of what we do.

This being said we would need to have some sort of critical mass committed to so that we are not still sitting on the majority of the wine after such an event as this. It would simply create almost more of an issue than currently exists. I would suspect most folks here can appreciate what I am talking about. That’s why I said 700 people (meaning cases). That would be ideal. I think 600 would be the minimum.

We would be willing to offer it up for $19/bottle which would be the FOB price we would charge distributors. We would split any shipping costs 50/50.

Furthermore it is easy for me to tell you all that this is some super nice wine at a low price. However you all get stuff that says that multiple times per day. I would be happy to distribute let’s say a case of wine across 12 different board members that are tasting note posters about Oregon/Pinot Noir for them to post a note on. Or, alternately, if there are 12 Portland-ish based contributors that folks trust in would just do a tasting with them and they could espouse accordingly. Whatever people feel like is fair and trustworthy. I am more than willing to put this wine up for any sort of review as I think it is a fair price at $45+/bottle let alone what I would be asking here.

I have no idea how we get to totalling this all up. If folks have interest and ideas I will roll with the program. I have a genuine interest and appreciation for this community and if we can pull something together where interested parties here can get a smoking deal and my winery can do what we need to do then that is a win win. I am open to any and all thoughts.

Again, I hope this is taken in the spirit that this offered in and not some inappropriate use of this for of communication. This was truly not my original intent. I hope we can work something out.

Jim,

What is half-price shipping of a case to the East coast? Just curious, and trying to decide how much I would commit to order.

Brad

Do you need to ask twice? [swoon.gif]
When I got up off the floor, I realized a whole page of posts went by. I was going to buy a competitor’s case from Alberty. I am sure he will not mind too much. [oops.gif]
I was just sharing yesterday with one of your neighbors who have just planted a vineyard that they should definitely try your reserve PN for an entry level wine of very good quality. [highfive.gif]

Jim,

I’m a huge fan of your wines. I’m in for at least 5 cases. And I’ll help in any way possible to get this done. Would be happy to take orders and/or organize anything you need.

Adam

I would have to look. Probably around 25 bucks (as a half of the 50 bucks we are charged). Shipping has gone up appreciably recently.

Put me down for a couple cases.

Jim, I’d suggest a new thread. Folks won’t see it here.

That said, I’m in for a case.

Michael

Although I am curious, why didn’t this end up in the Reserve? Too good? Waited to long?

Michael

There was a discussion about trying to set something like this up on one of the Berserker Day related forums a few years ago. I think it’s a great idea. Your circumstance with this wine is a perfect example where it can make sense for all parties involved.

So, some sort of mechanism for people to sign up for case-shares within a time window. If your 600 minimum is met, it’s a go. Make it as easy on the winery as possible, as well as the customers.

I’d imagine a lot of people bringing in friends, since we all have non-forumite wine geek friends.

I’m in for a case

It was well above the Reserve level wines no disrespect intended. And, at the time, I had thought an AVA based wine was intriguing to me. I still think it is but I don’t think that as a winery we are ready to commit to the nature of that wine’s sales needs as fully as I had positioned us. It is fully a Chehalem Mountain Pinot and so it spoke to our sensibilities of place and space but we may not be ready for its demands upon us. When you run a winery that does not make sense you sometimes end up with situations like this.

I’m in for a case. – Jim no need to contact me - I found the website - Thanks for this.

Jim, I would go for two cases. Jesus, I have not bought two cases of anything for years! I think a name to ponder would be Berserker Reserve. I know that is a tautology, but Nuthouse reserve is already taken by one of your neighbors. [snort.gif]

In for at least a case

Are these only available in 750s? I would be interested in a case of 375s and mags in addition to the 750s.

I think Wes has the right idea. Start a thread with the offer, make it contingent on a certain number of cases being sold and have people email you with order info- including credit card info. Keep it open for 2 or 3 weeks. Only charge the cards if it fills. Would this offer be open to restaurants? Or only individuals?

If you can’t sell the full 600 cases here, I’m sure you could sell a few barrels of berserker reserve - “Todd’s Folly”…

Thanks for this Jim.
