The shrill tone of that screed from the Organic Consumers Association makes my BS alarm go off. Perhaps what they say is true… but they don’t instill confidence in their message.

I am far less concerned about GE foods specifically than I am about our food supply becoming more “oligopolistic” You see it with food contamination recalls…The answer is to increase fees and oversight, thereby making it less likely that smaller processors can survive because they don’t have the economies of scale of a Hormel. The result is that when there is a problem at a Hormel type processor, it impacts a far greater % of the food supply.
the fact a food has been genetically modified isn’t always a bad thing, as it’s been done for many, many years. but, when a foods’ genome is altered to permit it life amongst pesticides and other toxicities, then one has to at least question the safety of the practice. just like the over and improper usage of antibiotics has lead to superbugs, these alterations in the make up of farms, will potentially lead to other more devastating consequences.
robert - i agree on the tone of the article. furthermore, maintaining safety is often a guise for not loosing money. sadly if often boils down to this.
I agree in some respects and it is a bit of an arms race…Roundup is much less effective than it was 20 years ago.
