Who needs Phil Franks? Lunch and TN:

With the departure of Phil who moved to California I thought there would be a void of drinking around Puget Sound, however some of the Seattle crew and I decided to get together at Seattle Wine Storage and meet for lunch. In attendance on short notice was Dan Walker, Brian Abramson, Jeff Twersky and myself.

Wines:
2001 Roty Charmes Chambertin ‘tres vieilles vignes’

1998 Giacosa Santo Stefano

1989 Lynch Bages

2003 Truchot Clos de la Roche

1991 Prieur Corton-Bressandes


To me the Roty Charmes Chambertin was the clear winner of the day, just a lovely burg, very expressive, with a nice elegant finish.

The 1998 Giacosa suffered from VA which really took away from how good it could be…not horrible, but not good in this group.

The 1989 Lynch Bages was killer, just what you would hope for and expect.

The 2003 Truchot Clos de la Roche was quite young but I thought it drank very well…there’s a lot of potential there and I really enjoyed it.

1991 Prieur Corton-Bressandes…A very atypical burg with lots of funky flavors and a bit to much bell pepper. I had this wine a couple of months ago and liked it more. Very good, but not great.

All in all these wines went well with the Salumi take out lunch and Seattle Wine Storage is a great place to get together for lunch…looking forward to next months lunch there.

I agree that the Roty was probably my favorite of the group, but that Prieur is a fascinating wine. Really interesting nose and really fresh on the palate. A treat.

I also liked the Truchot a good deal. I wish I had more so I could follow that wine as it evolves. A really great 2003.

Man you guys are heartless, the poor guy just left and your having fun without him…I love it neener I’ll have to give him a hollar and pop some old bottles for him…hope he likes Port.

Andy, he loves the 63 Taylor.

PRob, Chuck has a great lounge area there…couches, pool table, dart board, internet along with stems and decanters. A great place to hang out.

The screen saver on the computer there is that big 3 inch steak along side of your 89 Mouton.
