I’m looking for some help from whoever has ran into a similar issue.
I just saw a missed final delivery notice from UPS at my apartment main door. Googling this gave me a wine packaging company in Sonoma, and I checked my email and see nothing about any of my wine orders being shipped in the past several weeks. I have what winery this is and am very annoyed that there was no shipping notification, and I have UPS MyChoice too.
It’s going back to the sender now; what happens now? Thanks.
Some of it depends on how lucky you get with your local UPS hub. You might be successful with calling and seeing if it can be held for you to pick up instead of being returned to sender. I’ve found that return boxes seem to have low priority so often they are sitting in limbo at the local hub for a few days and they will let you come get it. But there’s really no way to know until you call.
I got a shipment from them on Friday and it turned out to be the Riverrain Tench I ordered on Berserker day. If I didn’t have UPS My Choice set up, I wouldn’t have known it was coming in advance at all.
I also ordered Riverain during BerserkerDay this year so I’m guessing this is it. I’ll have to reach out to Steve but it’s extremely frustrating that wineries do this without ANY sort of prior notification. On top of that, as far as I know, Riverain is still in the middle of their active release… who ships wine at the same time as their release?
I have open orders from BD too, one shows released, one shows open. No tracking # yet for the one that shows released. Curious, if you log into your account on Riverain website, do you see a tracking #?
Nope, I can’t. Maybe I’m just doing it wrong, but because they are currently active in their release, I can’t see any order prior information after logging into my account. I can only order more 2023 Tench Cabernet (not necessarily a bad thing )
Good to know, thanks for the heads up. I’ve ordered from Myriad, Ultramarine, and Maybach, and each of them have been very clear with their shipping timelines and provided a tracking number.
I cannot recall the last time I never received a tracking number or notification for a wine shipment. How else am I to know I have a package on the way, if the only time I the tracking number is provided to me is when the package is returned to the sender?
Regardless, I’ll check with Steve in the morning, and hopefully they can contact UPS to hold the package until I return from a business trip.
took me a while to find the link to your account (without having to buy in the current release). If you click on the “Acquire” tab on the home page, scroll to the very bottom without logging in to see “Click Here to log in to Your Account” link:
It’s happened to me a few times - can’t remember who, but was definitely one of the third-party shippers that some wineries use (probably CPS). Agree it’s annoying. I assume that somehow the full recipient information doesn’t get passed to CPS or CPS doesn’t properly process it.
FWiW, I take delivery from a winery for a friend, and Concierge is the usual shipper. She routinely gets the shipping notices AFTER the wine has been delivered.
Yeah, I’ve had numerous shipments go out without notification, from various board darlings. Sometimes I’ve only even learned a box was sitting waiting for me at FedEx or UPS because I saw someone post here on WB about receiving their order. Other times it got returned after sitting at FedEx for a week. Then I would reach out to the winery and get told ‘huh, yeah, I see that box came back, whoops’.
It’s a good reminder that small wineries have to deal with stuff like logistics that they may not have anyone in house who is actually good at it, so I try to be chill about it when it happens.
I logged in and saw “Released” but there was no tracking number entered under the header, “Shipping Comments (Tracking numbers will appear below, when available)”.
Interesting update: I received a call from UPS while I was in a meeting, informing me that I could pick up my package before 10:30am from the local UPS, but didn’t provide an address. I had my wife go on my behalf to a few different locations, but the stores had no clue where the package was and couldn’t trace the number that called me either. We also tried a customer service center in the area and it turned out to be closed.
Just received an email via my UPS My Choice account that I have a package estimated to arrive tomorrow from CPS. I can tell that it is more than likely Riverain as there is an RR in the comments section of the shipment information. There is no tracking information available in my Riverain account, just that tracking will show when available. Looking at all of my previous orders that have been delivered over the years are absent tracking information. Glad I received notice from UPS in time to have it redirected to a UPS Store.
Tried to reach out to Riverain and couldn’t reach anyone. Left a voicemail, no response from them.
Ended up reaching out to UPS again, and they told me that it was at the customer service warehouse that Google said was permanently closed. She (my wife) was finally able to pick up the package yesterday after going early in the morning.
I was originally hoping to lay these bottles down given the vintage and my appreciation of Riverain wines, but the bottles may have already experienced some heat damage since they were on the UPS truck for multiple days during a “heatwave” in the mid 90s. The capsules seemed a bit loose and the cork (for one bottle at least), felt like it was depressed. I guess I’ll just have to consume these quickly. Hopefully they will be okay…
I would not consider a depressed cork as an indicator of any kind of exposure to warm temps. If the cork had been pushed past the bottle opening or if there was seepage, then I would suspect the possibility of heat damage, but that apparently isn’t the case here.
