Which Washington wine are you drinking?

I feel for you as it is disheartening when opening a bottle you looked to enjoy and it’s fading out.

$250 per!!! I’d say The Bionic Frog is pushing the limit. That a couple of cabs.

That RASA was $800. No thank you!

Don’t get me wrong, if producer can get it, more power to them, but WA has such great depth under $100 that it would really have to stand out at over $100 and a lot of that bandwidth is already taken by producers like Cayuse, Quilceda Creek, Woodward Canyon, Leonetti, etc…that have been around for decade(s).

I’ve really been digging the wines I’ve had recently from Devison Vintners. So far, over the last few months, I’ve had the following:

2023 Beneath the Stones (Syrah, Stoney Vine Vineyard, Walla Walla Valley)
2022 Form and Function (Syrah, Walla Walla Valley)
2022 Phantom Lamb (Syrah, Lawrence Vineyard, Royal Slope)
2022 Cabernet Sauvignon
2022 Malbec (Southwind Vineyard, Walla Walla)
2023-4 Sauvignon Blanc (Evergreen Vineyard)

There hasn’t been a dud in the whole group. The Malbec was one of the best versions of that variety from Washington that I’ve had and the Sauvignon Blanc is always very good. I’d say least favorite (but still quite enjoyable) for my palate was either the Cab Sauv or the Form and Function. Give them a try if you haven’t.

PSA for Seattle area folks: I came back to Seattle this weekend (moved to PDX in 24) and the QFC in Ballard has the 2020 Delille Doyenne (red) on sale for a 20 spot - retails for $50. It’s mainly Cab and Syrah with a dallop of Grenache. I normally dont like crossing the streams with Syrah and Cabernet - but I had this last night and drinks pretty well.

Good shout, Dale, thanks. I wonder if DeLille is selling off wine to distributors en masse because my QFC here had some of the Chaleaur Blanc for a very, very good price. It’s gone now, but it was shockingly low relative to the release price.

Hey Brandon, I love the CEB, how much was it going for BTW?

Funny, it seems QFC is the source for these price dumps, while the larger Fred Meyers is normally standard (and often too high) pricing. This Doyenne dump has me wanting to go down to the QFC here in SE PDX for no other reasons than to look for wine bargains. One of the greatest QFC buys ever was at the Holman Rd in North Seattle - they had the estate Soos Creek Cab for $22 or something like that - it was an unbelievable score.

I just checked CT and see that it was the 2022 and was $25.95. I think it’s $40 on release now, so not a crazy reduction as it turns out, but I still bought a bunch.

Still a great buy for sure. There is a local shop, Great Wines On Broadway that had that exact wine at that price.

Historically Delille self-distributes in King County.

Had a 2018 Andrew Will ‘Champoux Vineyard’ red last night, our first Andrew Will wine, and really liked it. It was ready to go without a decant, with well-integrated tannins and a nice mouthfeel. My only quibble was the nose was a bit reticent, but some extra air may have helped with that. Our bottle was gone too quickly to find out. My wife was particularly impressed, which is a good sign (a.k.a. a green light to put more in the cellar).

One of the best things we winos can hear is our significant other saying, “Oh, this is good! You should buy more of it.”

Drank a 2013 Betz Pere de Famille last night. It was just awesome and just starting to hit its stride at age 13.

2021 K Powerline Viognier—I love Viognier although I rarely drink it. Bought 3 of these from garagiste for $17 or so.

Label shows an eye-popping 15.5%.

Still, delicious.

I’d say the vibe is apricot jam, which will sound gross to a lot of people, but it doesn’t come off as hot or overly thicc. Serious bottle of rich white wine for a pittance. I’d drink them within the next 18 months or so as it’s not getting any better and would expect the alcohol might poke out as the fruit becomes less vibrant.

TN (27 Apr 2026): dark red and black fruits, volcanic rock, seamlessly integrated and (even in its 100% new French oak youth) admirably devoid of obvious oak flavaromas

Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley is one of my bedrock wines. I typically buy 3 btls/yr–1 to open soon and the others to cellar based on initial impressions. This year, I also bought 2x 1500 ml. Based on today’s tasting, I’m scheduling the 750 mls for 2029+ and the 1500 mls for 2032+. This is one of the better vintages I can recall going back 25 years.

Devona Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley Bacchus Vineyard 2020

Delicious. Subtle unami inflections of roasted fig, cured black olive, and tamari. Flying NOE, way below the radar.

2016 No Girls Tempranillo - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (5/3/2026)
If I could only have one wine in the Cayuse stable, it would be the Impulsivo. No Girls, the Tempranillo. At a decade in, this is in a great spot, an elegant rendition of the Spanish grape that combines both the old world character and the house stamp on the end product. Pressed red berries evoke a smoky, strawberry quality with good cut and freshness. You really feel the Rocks influence on the back half, that ever so slight touch of funk and leather. Good persistence, great wine. Drink now and over the next 5. (94 points
