I am sure you will enjoy!!
Opened a 1998 Woodward Canyon Old Vines Cabernet last night with quite low expectations given its age (I’d been underwhelmed by a '98 Quilceda Creek a couple months ago) and was very pleasantly surprised. Beautiful, vibrant dark color with lovely red fruit, mint, brisk acidity, just a really nice cabernet that did not seem 28 years old.
Summarizing our 2025 Washington wine consumption. 225 tracked bottles, plus uncounted number of homemade wines. A total of 67 producers if you include homemade.
Top Ten plus ties by the number of bottles were:
de Négoce (24)
Orr Wines (18)
JB Neufeld (18)
Rôtie Cellars (12) (+5 Oregon wines, which going forward most are)
Cairdeas Winery (11)
Cultura (11)
Force Majeure (10)
Brook & Bull (8)
Adams Bench (7)
WeatherEye (7)
Cascade Cliffs (7)
I love that wine.
My first time with the Old Vines bottling, pretty dang good for $35 plus the vig on WineBid.
It’s pretty crazy if you sort Winebid by WA and put a price cap of $30 or so and what shows up…even under $20.
Would you both please shut up?
Fair. I obviously have/had no clue that was you. Please don’t post that stuff here going forward, although I know it’s in good fun. I won’t bid again on that. Apologies.
Deleted and PM’d.
Haha, we’re misunderstanding each other. Thanks for the edit. You should bid again. I’ll take a couple 1999s. I drank two 1987s from WB (one in 2024, and one just in January of this year) and both were just outstanding.
Which wines are you looking for me to bid on?
In all seriousness if there are multiple people here bidding on WA wines we should just share handles on WB.
- 2016 K Vintners Syrah The Beautiful Powerline Vineyard - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (3/8/2026)
P&P. The years in, this is the sweet spot for this wine and most K wines in general. Starts off with a really strong black olive note, which does receded with airtime. Soon, floral themed blackberry fruit emerges and a savory beef jerky quality. About a glass in, shavings of fresh vanilla bean emerge, which is a compelling trait that is not oak related and a trait I notice in WA Syrahs in this age bracket. Really good effort here. 2023 Quilceda Creek CVR
Wanted to see how the ‘23 CVR tastes as a preview to the big boy ‘23.
Probably the most distinct CVR to date but feels like it needs some time to smooth out. Nose is exceptional but the wine is just a tad rough on the mid palate.
Became more approachable with air but I can’t recall a CVR needing 3 plus hours in the decanter to start singing.
I usually pop these to defend the good stuff but will let the rest lay down for some time.
