Which Riesling are you drinking?

Your English is better than my German, but is this one of those ‘fake friend’ moments? Bombastic typically means overblown - in a negative way - which is presumably not what you intended, and I don’t think anyone ever described Falkenstein as overblown or too showy!

Sorry, „bombastisch“ in German has a rather positive meaning.

I changed to „tremendous“ this is what I wanted to say.

The German term “bombastisch” can also mean “fantastic.”

P.S.

even on Day 2 no decline whatsoever regarding this

Jurgen, I would expect it to improve with several days open :clinking_glasses:

Unless you finished it all, would be interesting to hear the development in some weeks or so.

No chance that a Falkenstein bottle lasts longer than 2 days at my Casa.
I could easily drink the Weber Rieslings in 60min, but my doctor would go mad.

I won’t argue that, however the trick is of course to have enough of other interesting bottles open at the same time!

cross-posted from a different thread - 2001 JJ Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr spatlese VDP auction - cork crumbled a bit and removed with Durand but wine in good shape. Excellent color for age, deep fruit but a bit soft until aired out. Probably not the best match for the food but excellent anyway. Maturing at expected rate. Purchased in October 2002, delivered in Nov. 2003, and cellared properly since then.

Needed some swirling/air to deal with a touch of reduction, but after that very nice!

Been very pleased with the Loersch wines. I have a stash of 2022 feinherb, kabinett, and spätlese (and 2021 BA).

Similar just different vintages.

And I bought a fair bit of Auslese.

2020 Stein Himmelreich Kabinett feinherb

Drinking really well with a life affirming long finish.
Lemon, herbal notes and a textural sensation.

Aced the three days test (kept improving) and was a terrific match with slightly spicy Chinese dishes.

By the way, Mutter Anna 2024 clocks in at just under 10 percent alcohol—a very light and dry wine but with substance.

This was excellent! Very dry trocken with tons of green apple and pear fruit Very full bodied with a long finish. 13%.

Iron fist, meet velvet glove. Such a beautiful marriage of intensity and elegance. Silky, light weight frame and a thrilling peacock’s tail finish. Really exemplary.

2023 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese #14

A stunningly beautiful Auslese with an endless finish. Far from shutting down and serious competition for its 2015, 2016, and 2019 versions.

2001 Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch (Erben-Thanisch) Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Spätlese

Opened by Allred. Medium yellow color. Medium yellow color. Tropical aromas. Notes of pineapple and apricot with a semi sweet character. I though this would have been better with a little more acidity but it is 24 years old. Otherwise, it was holding up well from the fantastic 2001 vintage. 89-90 points.

VM

Predates the improvements at the estate. Not surprising that it was a middling wine.
