Which Riesling are you drinking?

It doesn’t enhance petrol, but a natural cork does reduce it. Thus, if you had two identical Rieslings that would develop petrolly notes, most likely the screwcapped version would have a much more intense petrol note - which might give the illusion of screwcap “enhancing” petrol notes in a wine.

To be honest I am surprised that wine showed distinct petrol at all. Not been my experience with many Selbach wines despite drinking hundreds of them.

So cool. Yeah, the Ludes wines have become some of my faves and fascinated by the Ritsch vineyard peculiarities and what Vom Boden calls the 'Mystery Mosel".

Anybody else think this sounds corked?

Had the 23 with Sasha on Monday. This wine showed well.

A dangerously easy to drink bottle of 22 Auslese. Rose water, green tea, and a superbly delicate architecture for this ripeness level. “Playful” as MFW accurately states in issue 67.

Klamm is screwcapped. At least my bottles are.

2022 is generally showing weird for me regardless of producer. Not sure what’s going on. My wife has noted it as well. I have been refraining from most 2022 notes as I am not sure what the hell is going on.

I agree…I’ve found them over-priced for the quality. I’m certain there are special bottles from this producer, but from my experiences there are better deals for less money and other producers that I find more joy and value from.

Yes, screwcap. I had two other bottles from this case which showed similarly. My assumption is they are entering a dumb phase.

Could be.

No, not universally

Drinking a '93 Ludes Ritsch Auslese. Definitely not one of the top tier 90s Ludes but certainly pleasant enough.

Love those heritage labels. Get Ritsch quick!

I’d love to see more of these lesser-known producers get brought in to USA retail. Of course, the secret’s been out for a bit on Stein and Ludes, but prices still remain very reasonable.

Maybe not everywhere, but when I was visiting the Mosel a few years ago I saw Molitor all over the place in restaurants.

A large producer, omnipresent, from discount supermarkets to high street and airport shops. Top wines are without doubt good, yet don’t trigger hoarding instincts in collectors. I suppose a bit like Mondavi; not much Mondavi related traffic here…

Won a case of varying 2009-2013 screwcap Selbach’s from Spectrum a couple months ago and besides the one last night, I opened two 2009 Spätlese (from different regions) and they also had a very aggressive petrol profile. If you’re ever in the Bay Area it would be my pleasure to crack a bottle (or two) with you!

Well if you ever get out east you can plunder the depths of my Riesling collection. I need help drinking it all. I’ll pull a 2009 Selbach sometime later this year and check in. I have no shortage!!
