Which Israeli producers should I visit?

Thinking about organizing a wine-food-history exploration tour to Israel. Which wine producers/wineries would be on your short list and why?

Do I need to give Gideon Squires E-mail? pileon

Margalit has great wines ! their Cab Franc has been consistent one of the top CF I have had.
I have also had Yatir and like it a lot.
Enjoy.

I just went to a tasting of Israel wines and had some good ones. Don’t have much experience with any of these. Probably the best was from Petite Castel. I also liked wines I had from Dalton, Recanati and Ella Valley Vineyards.

Binyamina makes The Cave, might be a good place to visit. Had the Domaine du Castel and their Rose, both very good. Dalton puts out some good wines too.

One of my good friends is an excellent wine/food tour guide in Israel. Let me know if you are interested and I’ll send you his contact info.

No one!
Scary country at the moment

It has been like this for at least the last 2000 years.
Nothing has changed [popcorn.gif]

Harry, was there 2 months ago

Ted - yes, I would love to communicate with him. please email me his info to gideon@clossaron.com. Thank you!

We had a great visit at Pelter. I have been to Israel 7 times and visited different wineries. This reminded me of visiting Chris Cherry at Villa Creek. You are in a warehouse with a table and the guy is an amazing wine maker. Please note, the wines are kosher.

What wines/style does he make?

It depends which part of the country you will be visiting. In the south Yatir. Close to Jerusalem Castel, Sea Horse, Clos De Gat, Flam, Ella Valley, Tzora, Agur come to mind. In the central plain Margalit, Barkan, Chillag, Recanati and Carmel. In the north Dalton, Galil Mountain, Golan Heights, Pelter (not kosher contrary to what has been stated, if this is important to you…as indeed are some of the other wineries I have mentioned) and Tulip.
I live in Jerusalem, please feel free to contact me if I can help you further.

Thank you.

Margalit.

Many thanks for everyone’s help.

Now, does anyone know which of these focus on elegant, lighter, lower alcohol, BD/Organic/sustainable/“natural” (if any)?

None of them.

Gideon - Check on wineterriors. He has some good writeups:

I have read good things about Shvo Winery - gaby@shvo.co.il

Thanks for the correction on Pelter. I meant to say not kosher. That’s what happens when you type and have a glass of wine in the other hand. He has a broad line up for Sauv blanc, chard, bordeaux blend and some single varietals.
