Which Champagne are you drinking?

Thank you!

2012 Roses de Jeanne / Cédric Bouchard Champagne La Haute Lemblé - ready to go, amazing vinous characteristics, like a white burg with bubbles. Very long finish with great weight, lots of orchard fruit and some medium acidity, delicious!

2019 Guillaume Sergent Champagne Les Prés Dieu Extra Brut - France, Champagne (11/8/2024)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over 2.5 hrs in a restaurant setting –
– disgorged: July 28, 2021 –
– dosage: 1 g/L –

NOSE: crisp and “fresh”; a bit leafy; not rich and broad; minerals.

BODY: light bodied

TASTE: crisp and dry; initially showed a little hit of orange-y citrus, changing to dry lemon as it finishes; laser beam presentation — not broad; not oxidative; not rich; high acidity; floral; improved with air, as it became less severe. Second time with this wine, and I continue to love it.

  • 2019 Champagne Oudiette Champagne Rosé d'Infusion - France, Champagne (11/15/2024)
98% Chardonnay from Les Gras d’Huiles, 2% Meunier from Les Cormonts. 1107 bottles produced. Disgorged 22Jul22 with 1 g/l dosage. Full on strawberries and cream. So nice and perfectly fruit-sweet. Great acid, great balance, wonderful mouthfeel. Well rounded wine.

Hey Brian, nice note-is this labeled 2019 or is it the 2019 disgorgement of the NV?
Thanks

This is pretty clunky. Desperately needs some tension or verve.

Billecart-Salmon’s second label. I’ve found it to be a wine that appeals mostly to those who want Champagne and have a limit on price. Sometimes it is one of the few that fit in that box.

First thought on the pic being a Kansas guy, it’s a tornado in liquid form in a glass.

Extracted from another thread.

  • NV Marc Hébrart Champagne Premier Cru Brut Rosé
This always over-delivers. Creamy strawberry, raspberry, orange. Perfect balance.

  • NV Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Édition 168ème I was pleasantly surprised by how well this bottle showed (though not entirely surprised). I typically like the Krug GC with 15+ years. A blast of brioche, then savory ginger, citrus, apricot, and fragrant florals. Energetic and powerful, with an extracted yet elegant profile. One of my favorite recent MV Krug GC’s

  • NV Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée This bottle of very old Krug was delivered just two weeks ago, and in hindsight, I probably should have let it rest a bit longer. Or perhaps it’s simply the oldest half bottle of Krug I’ve ever opened. It had the old red and gold label, indicating disgorgement from the '95–'04 era. A two-number cork code (29) suggests it was from the earlier part of that range (I thought at first a 1992 disgorgement, but those had the old white label. @Brad_Baker do you know how to decode these?).
At first, apple cider notes dominated, but with time, they gave way to a more nuanced profile of dates, almonds, toffee, and earthy mushrooms. The wine maintained good cut and a fine bead. Though past its prime in this format (at least in the case of this particular bottle), it was fun to drink.

This was delicious yesteday, showing fresh berries and a touch of the white chocolate note I often get on Ambonnay fruit. As usual, it took about 30 minutes to get itself together. A 2018 disgorgement we’ve been drinking since 2020, I can say with conviction that it’s a champagne which benefits from time on cork.

Romain Henin (Pascal actually) L’Etaing de nos souvenirs.

Not the most expressive, but not overly oaky unlike several of his cuvées. Compact pear, juicy, very drinkable. €95 in a restaurant is fair value.

50:40:10 Ch:PN:PM. Disgorged Dec 23.

Warren,

You have a bottle that pre-dates LVMH purchasing Krug and changing the cork code over to what Cliqcuot was doing so it is a pre-2000 disgorgement. I would put the date at somewhere between 1995-1999 (which would mean a late 80s to early 90s base vintage), but that is a guess. You can try contacting Krug with the neck foil codes as they can go back into the archives to pull that information and let you know the disgorement date and base vintage.

We thought this to Paris with us, pre concert drinks. The previous bottle was just a nice find on the list.

Auguste I, all Pinot Noir vinified in Italian amphorae. 829 bottles. Full, red fruits with a little apple. Served a bit too warm it felt quite resolved and maybe heavy.

Some brief notes from two excellent recent events, a Hedonism DP tasting and a Decanter rare champagne masterclass.

  • 2013 Dom Pérignon Champagne - France, Champagne (04/11/2024)
Disgorged 2021, 5g/l dosage, 49/51 PN/C. Fresh, white bread/toast on the nose which is full and inviting. Palate is clean, crisp and deliciously balanced/refreshing. Notably sweet on the finish with air. A 2nd bottle bought on the evening and drunk 4 days’ later was notably tighter and leaner.

  • 2015 Dom Pérignon Champagne - France, Champagne (04/11/2024)
Disgorged 2023, 5g/l dosage, 51/49 PN/C. Riper, more pronounced PN impact leaving slightly heavier, bruised note vs the incredibly fresh and pure 13. Like a BdN! Leasy note on the finish. Ok/Interesting but DP should be better/more stringent in which vintages they make and how much.

  • 2002 Dom Pérignon Champagne P2 - France, Champagne (04/11/2024)
    Disgorged 2022, 55/45 PN/C. 5% kept back for P2.
Typically reduced! Quite sweet on the attack. Deeper, richer, heavier PN note than the 13. Very open already. Green apple note with air. Classy.

  • 2004 Dom Pérignon Champagne P2 - France, Champagne (04/11/2024)
Disgorged 2022, 57/43 N/C. Again typical p2 reduction. Authoritative on nose and palate. Deth of red fruit without bruised/heaviness. Better intensity too than the 02 p2.

  • 2009 Dom Pérignon Champagne Rosé - France, Champagne (04/11/2024)
Disgorged 2021, 56/44 PN/C with 13% PN red wine added. Wow! Superb! Salmon pink colour. Elegant, fresh nose and attack but superb depth on mid palate and finish. DP rep explained that with the much riper/more powerful PN fruit they were now harvesting, they had dramatically changed their approach to the rose from the 08 vintage onwards by reducing the amount of red wine added to 15% at most. The 09 is stunning and, for my money, even beats the amazing 08. Indeed, I think it’s at least in a par with cristal rose now and potentially ahead. I immediately bought….!

  • 2014 Rare Champagne Millésimé Rosé - France, Champagne (16/11/2024)
60/40 C/PN with 18% red wine added and 9g/l dosage.
Pale salmon colour. Dark fruited nose. Very delicate, volnay-like red fruit on the palate. Very restrained and pretty but nothing like as hedonistic as the 09 dp rose tasted recently.

  • 2012 Rare Champagne Millésimé Rosé - France, Champagne (16/11/2024)
60/40 C/PN with 8% red wine added and 7g/l dosage.
Very pale salmon pink colour again. Toasty, white bread notes and dark fruits again with bruised apple on the nose. Sweeter red/black fruit on the palate with air. Richer, more mouth filling than the very lean 14.

  • 2013 Rare Champagne - France, Champagne (16/11/2024)
    70/30 C/PN, 9g/l dosage.
Very fresh, linear and precise. Hint of bruised apple on the nose. Relaxed a bit with air to reveal a lovely sweet , supple lemon note.

  • 2012 Rare Champagne - France, Champagne (16/11/2024)
70/30 C/PN, 8g/l dosage, full malo, 11 year on lees.
Great richness and depth. Really authoritative palate. Incredibly citric, mineral and salty on the finish. Definitely a food wine. More supple, mouth filling and rich. Superb!

  • 2008 Rare Champagne - France, Champagne (16/11/2024)
70/30 C/PN, 9g/l dosage. Up another notch from the excellent 12. So intense, rich and with an incredibly lemony/salty finish. Seriously persistent. Massive aging potential.

  • 2006 Rare Champagne - France, Champagne (16/11/2024)
    Usual 70/30 C/PN blend.
Roasted pineapple and mango fruit profile very apparent on the nose. Really came together with air. Charming, supple and lovely.

  • 2002 Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Cuvée Rare - France, Champagne (16/11/2024)
Usual 70/30 C/PN blend. From the last disgorgement in 2018 and bottled under mytik.
Only fractionally less pale colour than the 06-13 wines. So elegant, balanced, mineral and saline. Really impressive. Sadly, never bottled in mags!

  • 1988 Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Cuvée Rare - France, Champagne (16/11/2024)
    70/39 C/PN, 12 g/l dosage, disgorged late 90s, blocked malo.
Dull gold colour. Fully mature and starting to oxidise/torrefy. Sour, overripe roasted pineapple. Honestly, they shouldn’t have served this bottle!

Last night, my son and I drank Egly-Ouriet V.P. with takeout rotisserie chicken while babysitting his daughter. 2014 Base, Disgorged January 2023, 90 months Sur Latte. Your note captured our bottle, particularly the interplay of autolytic richness and zippy acidity. One of very few wines I continue to buy in quantity. Along with Alexandre Filaine DMY, my favorite Champagne in the $150 bucket.

Agreed - very little else even comes close at that price point, and many others at higher prices can’t compete if you like the styles.

Have never had. Will check out. Thanks

It’s gotten expensive and hard to find
