Which Champagne are you drinking?

Mine is the newer label. The neck label says L169913 / S107.

In another forum post someone had said that L16 refers to a “lot code” being labeled / shipped in 2016, but the disgorgement date isn’t included in the code. It would likely be the '14 disgorgement if L16 / 2016 is correct.

The cork wasn’t too compressed so give or take 10 years seems about right. Also it wasn’t Mytik. Not sure if the last BdM '95 disgorgements started getting Mytik corks?


Ive only had 2 bottles yet its my favorite grower champagne!

The second line of printing on the neck is the disgorgement date. It is 5107 and not S107. The 5 symbolizes the year of 2015 with 107 being the day of the year.

2015 Paul Bara Special Club - 70-30 pinot chard and 6 g/l. I enjoyed this at The Beach House in Kauai on a work trip. Really nice, compact wine list prepared by someone who cares. Before looking up the wine stats, I could only guess form the nose that it was dominated by pinot noir with white cherry, a whiff of honeycomb, pear, and floral notes, with raw chopped hazelnuts. The pear-cherry-floral line is so classic Pinot Noir champagne. This is sleek and classy. A refined wine, even if not super complex. 93+

Big fan of the 2014 LGA, which has become one of my favorite LGAs of all time with each bottle seemingly better than the last. An LGA that’s bright and not particularly oxidative, but still exciting and spicy. It’s an excellent bottle of champagne.

Interesting, I find a distinct note of ginger.

Mine appear to be March 2014 disgorgement.

Funny, ginger is my Krug identifier. I don’t get much of that in Comtes BdB.

For me Dom is where I’ve had the strongest ginger experience :slight_smile:

Krug I get a toasted savory ginger note, young CdC I get a more fresh ginger note.

NV Louis Roederer Champagne Collection 243 - France, Champagne (11/11/2024)
Consumed 3 glasses over 3 hours. Light greenish gold color with a very lethargic fizz. Almost still. Medium intensity nose of sea spray and lemon zest, very light autolysis. Key lime pie, apple, and tangerine flavors with a light grip of acidity. Mostly unremarkable, but saved by a pleasantly long and expressive finish.

In the (relative) bargain category we really enjoyed a bottle of Diebolt Vallois blanc de blanc, the green label. Pretty easy drinker, good body and bead, the dosage which I think was 3.5 grams felt just about right. It’s one of the better champagnes I’ve tried in the $50 or less category.

Try the Prestige. It is a big step up and still right around $50 much of the time.

2004 Vincent Couche - 14 years on the lees so 2018 disgorgement.

Rich and round. Vanilla, almond, hazelnut, lemon curd and bruised apple and pear. But still plenty of acidity to balance it all out. I enjoyed it, but not necessarily a bottle I’d seek out.

Benoit Lahaye BdN - 11/2022 disgorgement
Pleasing red fruits, with some nice weight to it. This is what I look for in a BdN, although it wasn’t as knock my socks off as the ‘17 disgorgement I had over the summer. So I’ll give the other bottle I have some time.
