Which Champagne are you drinking?

Btw, a buddy of mine texted me the other day and said the '04 CdG was drinking great. I don’t recall having it before, but he has an excellent palate so probably worth opening a bottle.

Impossible! Don’t you know that the only decent '04 Champagne is the Comtes and that everything else is swill? :snort:

@Blake_Brown…why did you drink so many of the same exact bottle of wine? :crazy_face: You have a great group with cellars up there to support this kind of study. Dig it!

@scottkieser which vintage of Presence are you drinking there? Sounds like the 2018 or 2019.

Heads up. Ig wines 25% off on all bubbles. Lots of comtes, cristal etc etc etc. some very attractive prices. Sorry, the 08 comtes is gone though!

Frank, we had 2 dups, but what was even more amazing to me was there was no specific request for Krug Grande Cuvee, just some bring Krug and anything else was OK too. We had 8 GCs, a 2003 and a NV Rose plus 7 others for a last minute organized gathering.
Re the 2 dups, there was a huge, eye opening bottle variation and one was the heralded 164 which I’d be happy with throughout an entire evening.
Cheers

god bless you, Mr Brown. I was making a joke, that fell flat. All the Krug labels look the same at a distance, kinda like the bottles of Kendall Jackson Chard that all look the same (and probably taste the same too. :grimacing:). I’ll keep working on my wine humor. :nerd_face:

It’s the Resonance. I was told by the retailer it’s a 2017 base; there is no information on the bottle.

Yikes that I read that as Presence. The 17 Rez (as I call it for short), that is one of the few bottles of MC I have not tasted. It didn’t make it through my usual retail channels so I never bought it.

There is info there, Scott. I’ll tell you the code.

Grab the bottle, scan your eye down the side of the glass to where it meets the bottom rim of the bottle. Then, spin the bottle 360 and you’ll eventually see an etch code onto the glass. Tell me what the code says.

Not just Comtes, Cristal '04 is good too.

It’s LR15DO619ND.

You have 2015 vintage there.

LR-Resonance
15=2015
D=Disgorged June 2019
ND=Non-dose

Never would have guessed it was that old! Any thoughts on how much longer it will age?

We have talked to Dominique about 2015, and that was a warm year for her. That said, I would think sooner versus later on 2015. I have one left too, only because I want to do a vertical of older Rez when the time is right (I have 13 - 15, just a single bottle left of each).

Your note is the most recent of anyone about the 2015 (using CT as my frame). Your descriptors say round, plus subtle salt and chalk. To me, that says probably drinking pretty well now, no?

FWIW, I tend to drink Rez first when I buy every year, as that one is done in stainless and it doesn’t have the backbone of Efflorescence (well, it has less of one, perhaps to say Rez is brighter and better youthful).

Yeah, it’s drinking very well. And I plan to drink it all up over the next year regardless, as my wine fridge is over capacity and they have been passively cellared in my living room since I acquired them. Just wondered how long they can go, as It doesn’t taste tertiary, save for the subtle coffee note.

Oh I know! I was poking fun at certain board members who routinely bash all 04s except the Comtes.

I just don’t think we have enough data points or swings at Marie Courtin to know. It would be worthy to have Dominique on again, to do another Zoom with her for WB. We could ask that question and see what she has to offer. I’d like to do more of the Champagne Zooms, perhaps we can give it a go after harvest, maybe in the winter when things get slower for the business.

@ToddFrench Do you have interest in refreshing the Champagne Zooms with some of the folks we touched last time? We could start with Marie Courtin if you like.

We all knew who Sarah was subtweeting, Jon. Believe me, even the observers: We all knew :smirk:

Absolutely no problem Frank. I took it as a serious statement because it could have been done differently, but we were happy to have a last minute option to a plan that did not materialize.

(Chuckles)

Oh, undoubtedly. I am not sure I know anyone else as strong in will, mind, or body.

I am an utter Marshmallow by comparison :rofl:
