+1. While a label would never influence a buying decision of mine, I will quickly admit I do greatly enjoy the colorful labels from LF – they’re my favorite labels in Champagne.
Wait, the photo above is from a new bottling?! I thought it was an older bottle. Oof.
Me too. What was the disgorgment date?
2019 Emmanuel Brochet Champagne Premier Cru Le Mont Benoit Extra Brut
.

2017 Romain Henin Champagne Grand Cru Blanc Comme Neige Extra Brut
Brought this today to lunch at Alice Waters’ Lulu at the Hammer with my friend and wine consultant extraordinaire, Jeff Smith. Food was good, wine too.
(Photo of another bottle at my son’s place in Venice, not at the Hammer.)
What is that?
Jean Josselin Cuvee des Jean NV (3/17 disgorgement)
Super tasty, still showing well. Pretty classic in profile with some brioche notes but leans more towards the citric end of the spectrum with lemon oil, lime zest and fresh ginger. Showing some dosage with plenty of body and a crisp, long, satisfying finish. Silly value at the $22 it cost me on close out 6 years ago.
Champagne can be so good at all levels.
How was the Brochet? I’ve never had any but I’m thinking of trying to visit him.
2012 Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut Couarres Chateau
This was really good tonight. Crisp, linear, highly mineraled. Elegant; red berries, apricot, violet, cinnamon. Perfect balance of fruit, acid, stones and bead.
100% Pinot. Disgorged July 2017 with 4.5g/l dosage. Native yeast fermentation, non-filtered.
I think @Frank_Murray_III introduced me to this wine. I miss seeing his posts here.
Cheers,
Warren
The Laherte Freres Ultradition Brut had a 12/2022 disgoregement. I’ve noticed the extra brut offerings all get the colorful labels, but the brut has a more traditional label, perhaps to fit in with more of the grand marques brut offerings?
I wasn’t going to open anything tonight but the “why don’t I drink more rose bubbles” thread got me. I was a little nervous about the 9 grams per liter dosage, as I really don’t care for overly fruity rose, but this has ripping acidity and drinks mostly dry. Dense and chewy style with some tannin, strawberry and cranberry, mineral undertones, and a long mouthwatering finish. Not overly complex, though it’s still slowly opening up, but sapid and refreshing. Wish my Laetitia bottles had shown half as well.
So do I.
Yeah, this is some good business right here.
Okay short story time. Since I was 3 I’ve been (told) I was allergic to seafood. I’m going on a last minute trip to Japan in February and have been contemplating getting allergy tests to see if I outgrew the allergy. Sure enough, everything but crab and shrimp came back negative (even those were super low levels).
So I surprised my girlfriend by going out to her favorite sushi place last night. I brought some José Michel 2014 Special Club to celebrate.
Really enjoyed it. The champagne was a nice palate cleanser along with the ginger.
I bought 3 of those Billiot roses from the year end sale at VinsRare. I dont usually buy multiples of anything without tasting at least one, but the deal was so good I figured what the heck, and the CT notes were positive to glowing. Really glad to see your note here - expecting those bottles soon.
It was very good, lots of people in the tasting liked it a lot, more than the Henin. While young, it gives a lot of drinking pleasure right now.
A couple of notes from the group:

I did the same. I was trying to fill my cart with the Grand Cellier D’Or but they only let me have three. Bought three of these and six Marie Courtin Resonance to fill out the case. Definite gamble, as I have not had either, but they both get a lot of love here.
