Where Would You Live? -- Wine Country edition

That’s an interesting choice! We spent some time there a few years ago, and it was a beautiful place.

If I spoke the language, Burgundy. Domestically? Probably Healdsburg, though Santa Barbara wins out for weather.

Vienna

Access to Basque AND Portuguese surf …

Amazing seafood, agrarian and wine heartland, hybrid Celt/Spanish culture, gorgeous rocky/ piney beach scenery …

I was about to reply to @Russell_Faulkner that he perhaps was thinking of Vienna

In the US, probably where I am now. I’m anywhere from 20 minutes to a bit over an hour to get to Santa Cruz Mountain wineries. If not, Petaluma. Nice vibe and very near Sonoma wine country.

Outside of the US, probably Jura in France. Beautiful area. Yes, I do like the wines! If I want to live in a city there, Arbois would be just fine. 90 minute drive to Beaune so day trips to Burgundy would be easy. Not terribly far from Mosel in Germany.

It’s a bit of a trek to Vienna, but doable so it’ll still be possible to annoy @AndyK :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

That’s cheating.

Moved to Santa Barbara county after high school and never left.
If I had to pick another it’d probably be Portugal, maybe Lisbon. Criteria is there has to be good food, good surf and first world amenities . It’s also conveniently located to travel inexpensively around Europe and beyond.

Teehee, I strongly debated saying this as well. But I chickened out🤣

I’m living in the Zurich area of Switzerland now. It’s a costly place, which makes retiring there full time a little more challenging where as (at least at the moment) the Swiss franc is strong so goes a long way outside of Switzerland to allow a good standard of living.

Alsace is ideal as apart from being a lovely part of France, there is also a good amount of German spoken which is useful while we get French up to scratch and its only about 45 minutes from the Swiss border, with another hour or so to Zurich as we will likely keep a place there for connections and assuming our son settles in Switzerland.

Cassis and Bolzano are both rather lovely. I need to get to Colmar and Alsace though. Bolzano is my dream; mountains and wine.

Would have to be Provence or Corsica for me - lovely sunshine, turquoise waters, fresh seafood, vibrant markets, soulful wines

Umbria and Perugia for me. All of Italy is a wine region pretty much so maybe Bologna in Emilia Romana

How are all you folks going to participate in the Costco thread if you move to these exotic places?
