April! Especially second half of the month. Weather chancy, but in May (especially second half) it could get hot.
Stay up in the Pyrenees foothills. Much slower driving, exceptionally beautiful country.

Booked the flights! Get there April 14, depart May 1. Spend a few days in Madrid, the rest up north. Now I have to research places to stay and wineries to visit
If you want to do Rias Baixas, definitely base yourself in Pontevedra. Cambados is a tad closer, but holy hell is it sleepy.
If you make your way out to Ponferrada, then you get the fun of Bierzo😃.
Regardless, you’ll have an amazing time! I have a deep amount of love for Galicia
Torino was my family’s arrival and departure point for our Piedmont trip. I quite liked it, it’s a mid-sized city with plenty of delicious food/drink (bicerin is a treat), historic museums and sights in its center.
Even better, it wasn’t overrun with Instagram-seeking tourists
We are big Albariño fans, so will definitely be spending time there. Have some experience with Bierzo wines as well, would love to fit that in.
Train from Madrid to Santiago is a bit over three hours. You can fly in about one hour.
February might be too cold for some. in exchange, the seafood will be best (the colder the weather, the better; we say you should only eat Galician seafood in months that have an “r” in them like FebruaRy ;)) I would recommend May.
And…Albariño is a great wine but in my opinion the vineyards are a little boring to visit. Nothing too special about them. If you want to see the most incredible vineyards you might want to visit Ribeira Sacra and Valdeorras. It is a 2 hour drive from Pontevedra, but visiting for instance Adega Algueira is something you will not forget. Or Dominio do Bibei (but they seldom accept visitors).
My wife and I have realized we love the chaos of a multi-cultural city center, and we as well have the practical matter of a small child to consider, so we are taking a few trips in the next year to determine whether or not we’re going to move to Rome. Cost of living and affordability of private school (All compared to NYC, where we currently are) have our money stretching 2.5x further. So, for us, Lazio it is! (maybe )
Cool!
See my later post, we’re going! Just going to follow your advice for itinerary

40 acre vineyard in SLH off River Road. Only 2 million! Then build a winery+house and play around with Pinot. A bargain compared to Napa.
First question I’d ask: Got a contract for those grapes?
And you’re so close to Salinas where all the good Mexican restaurants are.
Apparently it’s this vineyard:

Can’t find evidence any SVD wines were released from it (aside from a handful of apocryphal entries in CT). So yeah, one would be taking a big risk – it is the next Garys’ or is it only good enough for blending?
