Where to try wine in Paris?

Heading to Paris next week. Have some nice dinners planned, but wouldn’t be adverse to stopping by some nice wine shops, if there’s a place where I can try some things I can’t get in the states. My wife is preggers and not drinking, so big trips are unlikely.

So, if I enjoy everything from Burg and Bordeaux to olivey Chinon and Jura and want to taste some good, preferably aged, wines I might not have an opportunity to taste in the US, and recommendations for wine stores, wine bars, or any other venues I might find interesting and off-the-beaten-path wines?

A good start

Caves Augé has tastings all the time

Caves Auge is one of the best, for my needs, in Paris. But don’t expect tasting aged wines at Caves Auge, though.

Legrand, near the Bourse/Stock Exchange does tasting and has a bar where they have 2 or 3 mature/aged wines available, but with tasting fees. Good charcuterie can be ordered as well. Retail wine prices can be expensive, though.

Paris By Mouth also has an excellent list of wine bars.

If the NYC branch is anything to go by Racines should be worth a trip. I’ve already added it to the list for our next visit.

Yves Camdeborde’s L’Avant Comptoir in the 6th (adjacent to his Comptoir du Relais). My favorite place to stop for a glass of wine or three and some great Basque tapas.

L’Avant Comptoir has some nice Beaujolais (Morgon) and some harder to find northern Rhone (St. Joseph). Otherwise, maybe not a broad selection by wine bar standards. Just down the street is Ambassades de Bourgogne, which I recommend.

On my trip last year I really enjoyed Willi’s Wine Bar, Racines, Caves Auge. Paris by Mouth is an excellent guide for both wine bars and wine shops.

Not drinking poison in paris is a good blog as is wine terroirs although not as current
