Heading out there for Spring release and would love some feedback on places to stay–would like to be close to Leonetti if possible. Thanks and much appreciated.
Not actually sure where leonetti is but walla walla is not a large area. If you want to spend top dollar stay at abeja. Otherwise the nicest? hotel downtown is probably the marcus whitman. There are several less expensive places like fairfield suites and the likes. Plenty of AirBnB VRBO type places as well, but none to specifically recco.
i love the finch. i find it has everything you need and nothing you don’t. reasonably priced.
i’ve stayed there several times. highly recommended.
We stayed at the Finch recently. No complaints at all, and they had a free wine tasting on Wednesday.
Convenient to the quite enjoyable downtown. As Scott says, nothing in the Walla Walla area is unreasonably far away.
Yeah, the Finch. Haven’t stayed at the Marc (Marcus Whitman) for years, but have heard that it’s getting a little worn, and they no longer have their free huge breakfast. Leonetti is about 10-15 minutes SE from downtown–easy access.
Marcus Whitman is, pretty sure, shut down at the moment because of a gas leak downtown - but would surely be open again in the Spring. Echo recommendations on the Finch. The GG is also nice and I’ve heard good things about Eritage - but it is outside of town and I haven’t stayed here.
We stay at the Mark. The refurbished original section. We prefer old-school craftsmanship over new contemporary BS. We also reserve the Chef’s table dinner for one night. It’s always a fun experience. Staying downtown is nice. One day or two of casual walking from tasting to tasting, random stores, food, ect. So much fun…
Personally, I’m not a fan of the Marcus Whittman. It’s expensive and about ten years too late for a remodeling. One funny moment when I stayed there last March was coming to the realization that they had the exact same exercise bike in their gym that they had five years prior when I last visited. Let’s just say that the bike needed updating five years ago. Also, they wouldn’t let me open my own wine at their restaurant… I mean, it’s a wine tourism town???
Honestly, my money is on the Courtyard by Marriott Walla Walla. I know it’s not super sexy or fancy, but it is an easy walk to nearly everything around town.
It’s been a few years but I always like the Marcus Whitman. I love old classic hotels. But I could see how it would not be far off from becoming like the lobby of the Tower of Terror ride if furniture, paint, etc. wasn’t kept up.
Actually where I tend to stay as well, points and such.
How many people are going?
We have rented some great vrbo options a couple blocks from downtown when traveling with other couples, especially if its for a birthday/anniversary type thing.
The finch is super convenient if you want downtown as is the Mark but some of it is dated but not in a dirty way.
After that it’s chain type stuff; marriot, hampton, HIexpress, etc.
We were scheduled to stay at the Marcus Whitman Hotel starting today but had to cancel our trip because of the gasoline leak.
Last year we stayed at 51 East Main which was nice.

Eritage is beautiful but outside town. Iam a negative on Whitman. Grosgrain has a beautiful house on the winery for rent. If money is an issue, I have no issue staying at the Marriott or Hampton.
Last time I stayed at the Marcus Whitman, we stayed in the “old” part, and it delivered on the OLD. Shabby, tired, and in dire need of an update. I don’t love super-modern hotels, but it looked neglected to me and needed to at least be refreshed.
I’m a big VRBO / AirBnB fan, as I like to have the option to cook a little and stretch out a bit. I don’t need anyone to change my sheets or towels (not that that happens at hotels anymore, but that’s a different gripe), and if the weather is good, some outdoor wine enjoyment time is also nice. One thing I always do with that option, though, is pay special attention to how much I have to do / clean at checkout. If it’s more or less run the dishwasher and lock the door, I’m in. If it’s everything but scrub the shower, I’m OUT. Have fun!
We recently stayed at a beautiful VRBO craftsman right in the middle of town. Feel free to direct message me for the VRBO property number if you’d like.
I hear the Washington State Penitentiary is pretty nice. Like the Marcus Whitman, they won’t let you BYO at their restaurant, though, unless you bring the wine in inside your rectum.
Yeah, this is a hot button for me too, especially considering most are already charging a significant cleaning fee. Some light tidy up- load dishwasher, throw towels in laundry is all I will do regardless of what they ask for.
If you want one step below that, my lot is free for glamping across from wa high. they just started excavation so don’t fall in a ditch.
Be sure to put in RV hookups while you’re installing everything. Should cost comparatively little compared to what I imagine the rest of it is going to cost you. Our new wine trip accommodation has two axles, a 2023 Airstream International purchased this summer. No more crappy hotel rooms for us (most of the time).
oh man-good idea. i am no rv man [yet?] but I’ll add it to the list.
400 amp service so it should handle it.
