Where to order box wine online?

If your immediate thought is to reply “don’t”, skip to the next thread. :kissing_heart: :point_right:

I’m putting on a box vs bottle event next week and even here around Boston, good box wine (anything better than Bota) is slim to none. One retailer 20 miles away may have one box I’m looking for, none have more than one. I’m not hoping for much luck but I figured I’d ask. I can drive to CT or NH since MA is in your shorts about things like having booze shipped to your house.

thanks,
jim

I believe both Tablas Creek and Bedrock are selling some wines as bag-in-box, although I don’t know any details. You might check their websites.

Is the purpose to beat the bottled wine or just show that some boxed wine can be palatable?

I’ve had several from boxes that can be a fine patio sipper at fridge temps. Seems like they are mostly from France or Spain, but I don’t really remember the names as There is a boutique shop that just brings them in occasionally (usually the summer) it seems.

At a minimum Vielle Ferme or Borgia should be easy to find and at least a step up from something like Bota.

If you are trying to wow then try to track down Tablas as Charles says

Wine Cask in Somerville used to be my favorite shop. Are they convenient to you?
Maybe give them a call and see if they are slinging any.

If you’re open to trying a range of wines, DC Wine and Spirits has a good selection of both boxed and bottled options online. Their gift sets and unique selections are pretty solid!

I can vouch for both of those. Bedrock’s 3L Ode to Lulu is probably gone, unless they can offer you a one off via email inquiry.

TC still has some red available direct, rose and white are gone: 2023 Patelin de Tablas - 3L Box | Tablas Creek

If you want to try a small producer with a higher end product (TC and Bedrock bag their entry level only): My Favorite Neighbor - Products - 2022 MFN BOX

It’s to educate seasoned wine drinkers on the option of boxed wine, tasted blind next to with as similar as possible bottled wine as a fun exercise.

I’ve been hesitant on the Borgia, I’ll keep that as backup since it’s widely available.

I have a line on the Vielle, and I’m waiting to hear from the retailer if they can get Sandy Giovese (I’ve had it, like it). Tablas might be a stretch financially, since I’ll also need a comparable bottle, but maybe I could subsidize it and enjoy the leftovers myself.

Yes sadly the Bedrock is NLA. Ami Ami has a rose that might be ok? Can’t find many reviews.

That last one is out of budget, and I’m not sure it’s a good marketing strategy. I can see the Tablas at $90 or so, but $160 is a lot to gamble on if it turns out I don’t like it. I’d absolutely have to try it first.

Wine and Cheese Cask: Their website has no inventory tools so I passed on them, but I called anyway and they do have a good selection of decent ones. Thanks for the push!
